I still haven't gotten any tweet responses from Mr. Wizard. Has anyone else tried sending him this thread or this? It may not convince him but it is worth a shot.

I honestly don't think he's gonna change his mind, but I have sent several tweets including links to this thread and the reddit post. He won't listen to any of the top Smash 4 player on it. Hopefully the top players will soft of agree to try not to time out matches to make sure Smash 4 doesn't take long by going to time every game. I feel like if EVO has too many timeouts or long matches, than other TOs might be inclined to lower the time limit further to 4 minutes to try and speed things up.

Interesting thread.

Our locals used 5-minutes for the most recent event. (Players generally want to prep for EVO based on some polls we set out before the event.) Previous events used 6-minutes. I haven't done a thorough investigation on how long the matches actually took in either case (and there have been other changes recently, such as customs adoption, so it isn't a perfect comparison), but if anyone else feels like evaluating the data, the archives are available for viewing:

Personally, I don't think "5 minutes leads to more stalling" is a valid argument in any case, simply because I believe that playing for the clock should be a legitimate and respected strategy, and that tournament staff should always prepare for worst-case scenarios anyway.
