5x Faster Browsing with FireFox

Found this a while back, have been using it for a year now. It works like a charm. It's why FireFox pwns all!

1. Type "aboutonfig" into the address bar and press enter. Scroll
down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time.
When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to 32

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer.
Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0".
This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

There's also a really neat trick that I use all the time to make pages load faster:

Hold down Alt and F4 at the same.


Give it a shot.

Unfortunately these tweaks aren't all they're made out to be. For starters, you can't set maxrequests to a number greater than 8--sure, Firefox will display any number you give it, but if it's more than 8 Firefox will still act as if you told it 8. Also, the drawing trick doesn't necessarily reduce page load times--you'll see content sooner, but the time it takes to render the entire page might actually increase.

Mozilla isn't stupid, and if it sounds too good to be true, then it is. Why would there be some secret setting that you can change in your browser that makes it go faster? Why wouldn't they just put it to this setting by default? Same goes for add-ons and plugins that claim to speed up your browsing. It's just a good way for people to install viruses, trojans, and keyloggers onto your computer.

But if you're still that desperate to make pages load that much faster, try holding down Alt and F4 like I said. If it doesn't work at first, keep trying it.

Actually, FasterFox is a licenced add-on that you can download straight from Mozilla.

i didnt notice a difference in changing the options, but fasterfox seemed to speed it up a little

Enabling prefetching on fasterfox increases load of servers.. but can/will significantly increase your speed.

network.http.pipelining <--- Determines whether or not the page can download more packets of data at once or not
network.http.proxy.pipelining <--- Only deals with proxies
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests <--- Determines how many packets Firefox can take at a time.

Although these are very useful to edit if you have a fast connection, it does lose its value if you set them too high. I have mine at 15, but it could hinder your speed because your internet/computer can't download all of the packets, and you all should know that multiple downloads of anything will slow down the overall speed... you can also change that with:

network.http.max-connections-per-server <--- Default set to 8. Determines how fast overall speed is with the site. (Obviously doesn't help at extremely high numbers, so raise slightly).
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server <--- Default set to 2. Determines how many downloads you can have going at once.

I have other stuff changed and added, but I'm too lazy to find them... Fasterfox also works well...

Great! many people here seem to like fasterfox and don't think badly of it so I think i'm going to download it in the near future. Hopefully it will make my firefox noticibly faster
