Which leads me to believe that the only way this would be done is through wireless LAN, online, or through an add-on (dunno what they're called).

3v3m anyone? Bur seriously I think that since all the trailers have four players max I doubt the actually game will have any more.

Telekinetic, just go to IGN and look up Smash Brawl or whatnot. It'll show you.

ResidentWaffle: 'False dilemma'. According to this logic, Luigi won't be in the game because he hasn't been in a trailer.

Believe it or not, there are things outside of the trailors that we don't know about.

really?

thats good news, i was sitting here just thinking how the controller would work for this kind of game or any kind of fighting game.:dizzy:

is there a link to confirm this?

The vast majority of gaming websites mentioned this when the game was revealed. (So this should be general knowledge but...oh well.)

It was also mentioned when Mr. Sakurai posted a bunch of suggestions people sent in --and a few he replied to. Here's a thread with the translation:

So, yes, the classic control setup with the GCN controller or (probably as another option) the Wii's Classic Controller. However, since the game only uses three buttons and a control stick, it could work with any controller.

Edit: Ack...forgot to see if you covered it, Sensai. >.<

I don't know about this...so far, SSBB has been shown with only 4 players playing in the two movies produced.

Attention: there are things that are not being shown in videos. Take for example other characters, other stages, other modes, other items, other moves, other techniques, and other rules of play.

Does that mean that none of those are in there? Absolutely not. Thus, does it mean that because only 4 players have been shown, only 4 players will be used? Absolutely not.

Well 5+ people would be a big thing, and if they haven't shown it yet, chances are that it's not going to happen.

But y'never know. Crazier things have happened.

i think that on one system they should have a max of 4 players and online you could play in up to 8 player ffa 2 team or multi team battlesand even though no one playes timed ffa... doing 8 player ffa would be awesome jumping in for the kill steals or since it is so chaotic rocking a group of 80% ppl with a well placed jiggly rest and getting a like a 5 person kill would just make my day

Adonnis: ....yes.

And I don't think that just because they haven't shown it yet means that it won't show up.

Saying that, I don't think it'll be there. But it would be cool.

The highest amount I would like to see would be 6 at a time. It would be more fun and more chaotic. However making Smash a 6 player at a time game would be something so big the developers would announce it before we even see it. I don't think we'll get it for Brawl, but it's possible for a possible 4th installment. I certainly wouldn't mind it.

Talking about a four installment before the third one's even been released. QUICK, Mr. Sakurai start making Super Smash Bros 4, we the gamers have grown tired of playing Brawl and are expecting you to make another game more to our liking.

Like Microsoft and the 360 for the Box and their next gen for the 360.

And I'm not sure they would show us it this early into production. Maybe they haven't even implemented it yet, haha.

Just lemme dream. :-/

.....I just can't picture a Wiimote and/or nunchuck combo being used for Brawl.
I have created a control scheme that I believe would work just fine with the wiimote/nunchuck, if not better.

However, I had it on an old web host which I neglected to update. So, nothing from me today.:(

5+ players, 6+ players, or what ever new magic number they add at a time, I say Bring It! I need the challenge when I'm not at underground tourneys!

We're all going to be satisfied regardless....but the addition of 2 to 4 more people playing would be a nice little extra, although certainly not necessary.

the idea seems fun but what if for some reason u all wanna use the same character? does that mean 8 different costumes for each character?

Most of the costume alterations are just color schemes anyhow. Couldn't be that difficult.

And if they do what I want them to, which is a "create a costume" option, then that would likewise be the coolness.

On a slightly more serious note, I don't see why there couldn't be a control scheme for the Nunchuk+Wiimote configuration.

Nunchuk - Joystick = motion, C button is shield, Z button is grab.
Wiimote - A = A attacks, B = B attacks, A+B = something else entirely (I bring this up since they're easier to push at the same time now), and Down on the d-pad could be your jump button if you don't like hitting up. The minus button is a select button, the plus button is start. 1 and 2 do... nothing?

Hmm... it'd be kind of cool if the motion sensing in the wiimote would perform smash attacks, but I doubt it. If you had several people playing together, SOMEBODY would get hurt.

And don't forget that a lot of stuff is being planned out for people who aren't tournament players. Melee is hugely popular disregarding its depth. 8 people on a moderately sized stage would be chaotic as hell, but for most people, chaos = fun.

And I won't lie, I would probably be a huge fan of 3v3 tournaments. The only downside is that with the wireless classics you would have lag, which a tournament player cannot tolerate.

My $0.02.

Now I know there have been post about this before, but the ones I read were just people wishing for it (I personally think it is an awful idea 4 is plenty).
There's no difference with the others "how many players" threads...

Recently I got my Nintendo Wi-Fi adapter and got my Wii Points added and was browsing around looking for the first game I would like to buy. I stumbled across Bomberman 93', as I was looking at the 'More Details' it said '1-5 Players' as I read on, It is possible to use many combinations; 4 GC Controllers and 1 Wii-Mote or, 2 GC Contollers, 1 Wii-Mote, and 1 Retro Controller, and so on and so forth.
I think Gamecube controllers would be used and to add another joystick like the wii mote... No one will play with it.

Can you imagine an 8-player giant melee? I can...and it's not pretty...

****, the more I think about this, the more I love the idea.

I've had enough trouble with nights of 5-7 people sitting around passing the controllers to each other.

If this were for real, you bet your sweet arse I'd buy 4 classic controllers in a god**** HEARTBEAT.

And like people have said, don't like it? Only play with FOUR players then. I think a stage the size of the Zelda Temple could easily hold 8 players.

FYI, 8 player opportunities are already being explored: Bust a Move Bash will feature 8 player simultaneous gameplay on one screen.

this could work, but i bet it wouldnt be 8 all at once, probably 4 at a time, with switch offs.

You mean like in Tournament Mode?

Also of note...Nintendo had this retailer conference today and, on their little release list (no date, just 2007) they list SSBB as having an undecided number of players despite Mario Party 8 and Mario Strikers Charged having 1-4. Mario Strikers Charged has online so it can't be that but it could just be the game's general tentativeness or a mistake. However, it caught my as being sort of odd.

Can you link to this?

I believe you, it's just that I need to show some others...

The more I think about it, the more I would make love to Sakurai's aged mother in law as a favor to him if it meant we'd get 8 player SSBB.

It's not a feature everyone would use, but those who DO use it would find it insanely awesome, especially since it will be like chaos theatre to watch in action.
