I can't remember where i read it that Melee has 480p mode. Is this true? If yes how can i activate it?

Hook up your Gamecube or Wii system with their respective component A/V cables to your 480p compatible television. Gamecube component cables will run you at least $40 USD (typically 50) as they have been discontinued for a few years now, and they also require a certain Gamecube model as later models lack the component out port.

When Melee is first booting up, hold the B button. You will get a menu option to activate progressive scan display. Hit Yes.

Once in the game, go into Options, Screen Display, then turn Deflicker OFF. That's it. Have fun.

Uhm no! I got Melee when it first came out but i never knew it supported 480p. Of course i already got the cable connected to the Wii and all Wii games that support 480p work fine but Melee just seems to have no option to activate it. Do i need to get the good old gamecube out because that holding b while booting Melee doesn't seem to work on the Wii?

It works on my end. Just keep the B button held down before the game boots up. Although if you're playing the PAL version, that's the one version of Melee that cannot output in 480p.

Darn, i have the pal verion, so that's the reason i can't get it to work. I wonder if they had any reaon for removing it from the pal version.

Forget the fairy tale and save yourself for a change.

At the time of Melee's release, the 480p resolution was basically nonexistent in PAL territories. They removed 480p support from the PAL version of Melee in favor of a 60Hz option. The PAL debug menu still has the "Progressive Test" option which brings up the menu to activate progressive scan in the NTSC version, but in the PAL version this leads to a defunct, bugged out menu. There's no way at all in the game to force 480p output in the PAL version. In retrospect, removing 480p support entirely in the PAL version when it was already implemented was a poor decision.

Hey, I have been looking up a lot of stuff about Melee lately and I read that only the 1.0 version of Melee supports 480p. I am pretty sure of this. The way you tell the version is the little code thing in one of the circles on the bottom of the disc. It should be DOL-GALE-0-00. The only digit that change on the NTSC versions is the last one, which are 01 and 02. If you have those versions, I am not sure they will work. You want 00.
