It's quite depressing that since Snake was announced people are all desperate to get their 3rd party character in. The truth is that no previous Smash game has had any true 3rd party characters and I think that Brawl will pretty much be the same. The concept was always, in my eyes, look at the diversity of Nintendo's characters and imagine how crazy it is to see them all fight. The idea that any non-Nintendo character other than Sonic or Megaman might get in is just self-delusion.

but this does seem a little bit like fanboyism, what with the "Sonic or Megaman" little snippet that you put on at the end...
i have nothing against what youre saying...

it might just be because theres is alot of way off-base character suggestions (Spyro, NiGHTS, and Simon Belmont for instance - and yeah i know im gonna get flamed for those but bring it the **** on).

this was laways my take on 3rd party...
Geno only ever appeared in 2 games...
both of which were Mario games...
both of which were on Nintendo consoles...
i always thought that when Sakurai said 2 or 3 or however many 3rd party characters...
he meant in the sense that they have appeared on non-Nintendo consoles as well as Nintendo consoles...
i could be wrong...
i hope not though...
cuz then Geno wouldnt really be considered a 3rd party character...
and we could get both him and Megaman...

^^Thats the same thing I thought, The only thing that makes you think third party about Geno is he's Square-Enix material, he's appeared in Mario games, so you don't feel he's 3rd party.

I think 3rd parties should only be famous 3rd party characters. Ones even casual gamers would know. Geno is cool and all, but he just doesn't seem like he has chances like Sonic and Megaman do. I wouldn't mind who it was between Geno and Megaman, more blue the better.

Not to correct your statement but Geno has blue clothing. But i do agree Geno has more of a chance of an AT then being chosen over Sonic and/or Megaman for a playable spot.I think 3rd parties should only be famous 3rd party characters. )Geno is pretty much insignificant in the Mario series. He has only appeared in 2 games, Super Mario RPG being his only "Playable" appearence. Geno is just one of the game's specific characters like Mallow is. It is possible to finish the game without using him much. His only other appearence was in Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga, but as more of a cameo as a puppet that is a host of the Star Stache' Smash arcade game in Little Fungitown.
(Still wearing the suit) I truly don't think the developers would choose Geno over much more popular 3rd parties as a playable character, it is as simple as that.

yes i know the difference but still FF7 sold much better than Mario RPG. i hated Sony with a passion back in those days (primarily cuz of how they screwed over nintendo) but praising Geno while bashing Cloud seems nothing short of console fanboyism. and all-in-all Geno being in Super Mario RPG on the SNES shouldnt automatically make him favored over video game legend Megaman.

IMO Geno is a character only popular with hardcore gamers like most people on this site. even so, MM is still more popular here and everywhere else due to his history and fanbase. He is ahead of Geno in Kalypso's poll and in the rate this character's chances thread.
And no one better say Geno got more votes on Sakurai's poll because they NEVER tallied the results and both got multiple mentions

Sonic and Megaman will most likely be added next being famous and having their roots firmly in past Nintendo consoles. Cloud, as Famous and awsome as he is, is doubtful for inclusion. I heard sometime back on the old Smashbros.com, that Sakurai only wants 3rd party characters that have made an appearance on at least one Nintendo console. Cloud, as far as I know, does not have any appearances on any Nintendo consoles, past present or future. I just cant see it happening. Go ahead, light your torches and flame me

Cloud has a cameo appearance in the GBA Kingdom Hearts game, I hear, so some people might feel he qualifies based on that. But I completely agree with what you guys are saying. Sonic is Nintendo's famous rival, and Megaman was such a huge part of Nintendo in the old days, and still is to some degree. Not to mention they're both crazy famous and popular. I truly think / hope that it will be Sonic and Megaman for Brawl.

Sonic is a tough nut to liscence. I'd say he's a 50-50. Megaman has a good chance. about 90 of his 2308 games were on Nintendo consoles.
Or you never know, Sakurai might just go with one other third party. Snake and whoever gets chosen.

If ya ask me the third party slots are going to be Snake, Sonic, and Megaman the end. If they have assist trophies: Tails, Zero/Roll/Rush, and for MGS I don't now maybe the ninja guy.
People that honestly are too popular for not being that great: Geno, honestly two games where he played rolls where he had no real purpose? Just a filler character if ya ask me.
People in my opinion that I want more than anything to be in there: Dante from DMC, yes he's eligible. He was in a Nintendo DS game. CVC Card Battle DS or somethin' like that.

Search for Sonic or Megaman on youtube and look at what you find. Then search for Geno. It's obvious who doesn't deserve the spot.

After the announcement of Snake for Brawl, I think that pretty much opened the floodgates of possible characters for this game. I for one think Sonic is a given, but they probably won't announce anything until right before the game ships. Mega-Man is the character I want to see in this game the most, but I don't think he'll make it just because he's had his fair share of fighting games already. I also think Bomberman is another 3rd party character that has a good chance of making it.

Isn't Bomberman Hudson-soft anyway? So he's a bit of a second party character... increasing his chances astronmically.
And it also depends on Nintendo's standings with other developers. If they're good with Sega and not Capcom, then Sonic or NiGHTS might end up on the game over Megaman or Viewtiful Joe. And Visa-versa.

Ya, I like to think Geno as a "non 3rd party" 3rd party character. I don't really count him on my 2-3 3rd party characters, he's more of a Mario character made by Square.
This may be scandelous, but I like to keep my hopes up for certain 3rd party characters like Geno based on the companies (not series) listed in the musician section of the brawl website...this theory shows that many of them are from Konami, Capcom, Sega, and Square. It makes sense to me, but others may find it flawed. Oh well, heres to hoping!

I would honestly be dissapointed if Bomberman got in the game instead of someone from a FF franchise or Megaman, because Bomberman wasn't really that unique to me. Only if made him look like the cover for Bomberman for the Turbographix LOL
over megaman? i can understand the disappointment. over an FF character? thats just fanboyism. bomberman is an icon in gaming and he been kicking *** and taking name on nintendo systems long before Cloud Strife (who pwnz, btw) and long before Crono or Geno or any other big name squaresoft/enix character you want to pull out...nuff said

I think Natsume should give Smash Bros Jack of the Harvest Moon series. His moves would be sick, and unexpected. Not saying it's gonna happen, but it would be pretty classic.
Too bad Rare owns Conker and Banjo Kazooie... they would make decent characters as well.

Hmm, that's true... I imagine they'd be pushing for that as well, so they can put SMRPG on virtual console. Which they must be trying to do. I guess Geno's pretty uncertain then.

He might even have a better chance than Sonic / Megaman because Hudson is a subsidiary of Konami / Ubisoft, and Snake is made by Konami, and is already in the game.
Although if I were Sakurai, my inclusion list would go like this:
1. Sonic
2. Megaman
3. Bomberman
4. Cloud Strife (or any other 3rd party, even if we were able to put 4 in the game >_<)
