So we all knew that Smash Fests for the Wii U version were being held today, but what I didn't know was that there would be a Smash Run demo for the 3DS as well.

So, since I'm assuming a good handful of people must have tried it out as well, I just wanted to get your thoughts and opinions on everything from visuals, to controls, to whatever I guess.

I personally was very impressed by how smooth it all ran. I know we were told 60fps in 3D, but actually seeing it in action just blew my mind a little. The control scheme is something I want to change however, as for some reason my brain kept wanting to jump with b and I certainly won't need to jump buttons. Rather have one be a grab or something.

Smash Run wasn't available at all of the stores. Couldn't play it at mine :(

It looks absolutely gorgeous though, and screenshots don't do it justice. L/R default mapping is really weird, tho. R is grab and L is shield, I would probably want it the other way around. Also a couple of characters were only playable on 3DS (iirc Yoshi, Toon Link, and Luigi) and all felt really really good. Yoshi's Fox-style usmash is so fun, and Luigi's FS is probably my favorite FS ingame.

I don't think the 3DS version is as clunky and weird as I expected it to be, and is definitely going to be the best game on the 3DS when it's released.

I can't play any demos for obvious reasons, but I do have a question for those that have played the 3DS Demo:

Were you able to play it on a standard 3DS, or were only XLs available? If you could play on standard ones, did it seem OK? Like, it's not a noticeably worse experience than going XL?

This ^

I've heard people say the XL has a terrible quality since it doesn't raise resolution and I've also heard from others that it's barely noticeable except in certain games. Yet all the Smash 3DS videos and trailers I've seen from Nintendo were on the XL.

If you bring your own 3DS to Best Buy, can you download a demo and play unlimited times?

Only XL's were available, but it felt great playing on that. Much more natural than the Pro Controller. I can't imagine a standard 3DS wouldn't feel right, though.

Smash runs was pretty great, I explored quite a bit and I'm fairly certain I didn't scratch the surface the map. I only saw about 10 different types of enemies.

Let's just say that when the Nintendo reps revealed the 3ds our best buy started to freak out. All so you could play 3ds as many times as you wanted to over here. Besides that the only down side was that Olamar and others were absent from the 3ds demo. Other then that I thought the game was really enjoyable and I am going back to just spend more time on it Saturday.

I got some hands-on time at Best Buy, and like others have said, only the 3DS XL was available. It felt good and looked great, but my primary concern is the lack of a C-stick alternative. I would prefer to play it on a standard 3DS with a CPP attachment, but considering the fact that the game has only been shown on a 3DS XL thus far, I'm assuming that there will not be CPP support.

I wish any of the press at E3 had asked Sakurai about CPP support, but sadly, nobody did.
