The announcer is actually find, or at least his voice is. I think he needs to assert more power into each call. he has the ability and the potential, but in Project m thus far he doesnt use it too well. When he shouts "game!" it actually sounds about right. Just needs power, thats all

No offense ,I think he put a lot of charisma in his performance, but in the end he sounds.... well.....like a kid prank caller attempting to sound older or something. Or something in the same vein as some guy on newgrounds in 2004 desperately needing a female voice so he has to get his sister to read the lines and it sounds out of place. Kinda like that.

IDK I think I'm just so use to the more mature voices from 64/melee/brawl. But this is PM and new so I guess I can understand. Just makes me think of a random tournament player voice and I guess it makes the game feel a little TOO fan-made. You feel me? I'd take some influence from F-zero GX. That guy was young sounding, but was distorted out the kazoo and it sounded cool.

Is this a slight hinting of a new character? Why else would they change it unless they needed some new phrases................Ridley confirmed.

Not a fan of the new announcer. Just sounds like some teenager trying to immitate the official ones, and the way he does some lines is just annoying. Like with Luigi, and him going "WOOF" to say Wolf. His range goes from "excited" to "flamboyant," which is just awkward to hear.

I get that this isn't exactly an official game, but the announcer doesn't really match with the quality of everything else in the mod, especially with what else was introduced with 3.6.

I played a whole bunch yesterday and every few matches we would select Luigi to hear the hilarious announcer call. I'm sure that's not what the pmbr was going for, but I wouldn't mind if ever character call was filled with that much sass.

The way he says Luigi is amazing, I almost played him just because of that.

yeah, someone linked a youtube vid of all the character names. a couple are pretty good, luigi's being amongst them : p

some just felt bland or flat. like, ganondorf and bowser. felt like they should be a bit more menacing or maybe use a deeper pitch on them, or drop the inflection at the end of the name. samus and zero suit samus sounded odd, back to back, because it felt like he was just saying "samus!" then adding "zero suit" before that same clip and then splicing them together. should be a bit of a different inflection between them.

i think the voice works ok, overall, but there needs to be a bit more oomph behind stuff, overall (or maybe use a slightly deeper pitch of his voice), and a more varied tone, though not extremely so.

i'm also for bucking the trend entirely and using a female announcer.

or just being super confusing and overlaying a male and female voice using the same timing for the syllables with their own pitches. that could be trippy and kinda neat, but probably not the aesthetic aimed for : p

Personally, I think the announcer lacks some...oomph, so to say. Like, it sounds like he's just reading the characters off a list of things to say, with the exception of Luigi. Some could argue that his delivery is what makes him unique, but if that's the angle he should go for, he should give every character something unique and not sound incredibly dull.

I really didn't like him at first either, but after a few weeks it grew on me and now I'm a fan.

To me, it's something that we've been used to for so long, and to hear it be changed makes it sound *wrong* when it's just different. Give it a bit more and he'll feel at home.
My main problem is though, fan made mods have made announcers with a more high quality sounding voice. The voice quality is terrible in-game.

The new announcer's voice in 3.6 has grown on me but I think I still like the timbre of the announcer's voice in Sm4sh best.

On topic/the subject of the 3.6 announcer: He sounds like he... doesn't care in some of them. In others, he sounds like he's almost about to burst out laughing. Luigi's call in particular had me in stitches. Overall, however, I'm not too pleased with 3.6's announcer. It just sounds so... casual/not professional to me. It could be the lack of deepness to it that's throwing me off, but I have yet to acclimate.

The announcer was like, 80% of my hype for this update. I'm a little disappointed, unfortunately.

The announcer was kinda exciting for me, too. But the end result was just not what I expected.

Are we a week into 3.6? I already forgot when it was released
but I can confirm, I have still do not like the announcer. Please replace him with blakinola. No, don't tell me I can just do that myself when his pack comes out; this doesn't fix other people's set-ups that i'll have to play on in tourney, nor the stream set-ups that i will play on/watch from home. We need the bass, that voice of authority, oomph, 3.6 announcer has none of this
Nobody asked PMDT to specifically hire McKeever, idk why they are so stuck on keeping him. It was a bad experiment and would honestly have been better if they gave us demo clips of his in-game character calls to vote on before hand

My friends and I reacted to the 3.6 announcer like this. Lol I can deal with the new announcer to this day, but seriously, it needs improvement. (No need to piggyback on what others have already stated above me).

I don't see the hate, I actually like the guy better than the Brawl announcer.

Melee announcer will always be my favorite though.

There isn't much that I say about the new announcer that hasn't already been talked about in this thread, but what I don't like about his voice is that it reminds me of Crusade's. Which...wasn't a very good fan game to me.

I would love to see blakinola's take on the announcer/Master Hand.

The new announcer may not sound as hyped as the old ones, but I still like him. He sounds like he would be good for voicing a protagonist in a 4Kids anime dub, for what that's worth.

On the subject of PM adding stuff to make its own identity, does anyone else not like the theme they came up with? It's just not very melodic... It's orchestrated, which is nice, but it's pretty forgettable .

At first i was skeptical about the new announcer, but now seeing it out of the box, i really like him, especially the luigi one, it fits so well with him when you think about it.

On the subject of the announcer, they broke a Smash tradition; the guy who voices the announcer always voices Master Hand & Crazy Hand! I know they don't have to follow that since PM isn't an official Smash, they should have the new guy record new clips for them!

(that's sort of a joke, but I could see it happening...)

Yeah, I don't really care for it either. I have my menu set to play only Menu (Melee).

Just some constructive criticism on the new voice for the announcer.. is there any way to make him sound a bit more like the original announcer?

Or if you wana rule that option out, I would suggest finding someone that has a voice for radio to do the voice. He doesn't sound enough like an announcer right now. He needs more power in his voice. The old announcer sounded like a sports announcer almost.

Hope this makes sense, and is doable!
Agreed. I hate his flamboyant voice. It makes me want to mute my TV, it's a good idea with changing it but PMDT didn't deliver with this aspect of PM.

I actually don't want the new announcer to sound just like the old one. That's just boring. I'd rather someone that's more distinguishable, so that PM can set itself apart more.

I love him so much! He sounds so happy, it's a nice change from the overdone intense yelling. He also sounds a lot like the old Pokémon Stadium announcer, and the way he says "Luigi" is just priceless.

Love idea, but needs improvement in execution.
He needs more of a punch then he has right now.

I know the guy tried his hardest, and I feel kinda bad for bagging on people who are trying to be an "up and coming voice actor" or whatever
But it really does not sound good

I hope they get Morgan Freeman for the next update. Lets throw some money together to get him to do it in fact.

The new announcer was nice, but...
It really lacked intensity.
See, I'm making a build of P:M 3.6 that has some modified content. Mainly a mix of things I think really fit with P:M. The announcer didn't really grow on me, which is hwy I chose the Project Monolith announcer.

Honestly, he wouldn't be that great of an announcer. He has a great voice, but it's more fitting for the calming narration of a Discovery channel documentary and not the excitement of a fighting game announcer.

can confirm, hasn't grown on me
still cringe at the puff voice crack
Ike still sounds like a caveman VA'd it
Luigi and falcon remain the only good calls, and only compared to the rest of the clips, while being worse than almost any other announcers
everybody's calls are just too tenor and don't match the typical tone of smash announcers
almost any other announcer from the reddit threads would have been way better
MW2 announcer included

Honestly, a female announcer would be a great way to distinguish Project M from the other games, and a breath of fresh air from the standard deep, booming voices. I'd be hyped for that.

I think his voice is fine, but I think if he were to give more effort in to it like he did with Falcon and Luigi, I think it would be 100x better. For example Wolf he says "Wuf" and he has a voice crack when saying jigglypuff
