That's right! I'm talking about the blast from the past. The lean green machine himself, GEX!

Joking aside, I think Gex would make a great character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He has a very kid friendly, charismatic look that fits seamlessly into the happy go lucky world of Nintendo. He also has tons of personality, and an edgy side that could appeal to an older audience as well. It's also a plus that Square Enix now owns the IP for the character. Lastly, in terms of Gex's moveset, there's a lot of potential here. Many of his attacks can be inspired by the games, or taken directly from the games themselves.

Here's a hypothetical moveset for the character:

Gex will be a very fast and mobile character, with decent recovery, and great utility. His main weakness will be that he is extremely light, somewhat of a fast faller, and will have a hurtbox on his tail. His crouch will be very low to the ground, and his crawl will be very fast (comparable to the slowest run speed in the game). Most of Gex's moves are weak, but he has a few very strong tail attacks.

SPECIALS

Side B: Tail whip - Gex hits you with his tail, spinning his whole body around. This can reflect projectiles, has very little start up and end lag. It can be used while running. Can also be used to make Gex quickly pivot on the ground or in the air. When it hits an opponent, it does very little knockback.

Up B: Channel Change or Tongue Tether - I'm not sure which one would be best but leaning toward the latter. "Channel Change" will essentially make Gex teleport. You'll here a sound that resembles the sound of a person changing a channel (e.g. robot chicken). Gex will then disappear and reappear. Functions the same way as Mewtwo's Teleport. Alternatively, "Tongue Tether" will act as a tether recovery that can be aimed in any direction. If the attack comes into contact with terrain it pulls him toward it. If it connects with a character, gex will perform a command throw that sends his opponent forward.

Down B: Smash TV - Gex pulls out a small CRT. The CRT acts like a cargo item, similar to Wario's bike. However, Gex can jump with it, but not double jump. It can be set by pressing down B again, and it can be Z dropped. The CRT does a lot of damage (12-15%) and has killing power, but isn't spammable. If thrown, or dropped from a tall height the CRT will break. If broken, a fly will fly out of it. Gex can consume the fly with his Neutral B or Up B to gain 3% health and some extra abilities.

Neutral B: Tongue attack/Spit attack
- Tongue attack acts like a quick jab that does minor damage to characters but has decent range and can lead to followups. When Gex consumes a fly, Tongue Attack becomes Spit Attack. Spit Attack is a fast and spammable projectile that stuns on contact and there are 3 tiers: Goo - minor damage. very little hitstun. Acid - heavy hitstun. medium damage. Fire - KO move. High damage. High Knockback. What tier fly you get will be random, but the more deadly the tier, the rarer it will be. In addition you only get 3 shots with the spit attack. After that you have to swallow another fly to get it.

Dash attack: Tail Kick - This is taken directly from his games. It's essentially a jumping side kick with his tail pointed in the direction he is kicking in. This move can spike opponents and will cause Gex to go offstage if used near the ledge. The late hit of this move acts like a sex kick.

Smash attacks: All very strong tail attacks.

Aerials: weak tail attacks that are good for gimping but otherwise not good kill moves.

Dair: Tail Spring - Gex turns his tail into a spring to bounce really high. He can use this move to jump really high from the ground or bounce off of other characters. This move will make Gex fall faster and will only remain active if you hold down the A button. Similar to Bayo. This move can meteor opponents.

Final Smash: Rez TV - Gex pulls out his remote and shoots a laser from it. Whatever opponents hit will get transported to Rez TV. Gex will watch from his living room chair as everyone gets annihilated by Rez.

And of course Gex's personality will be present. There will be references and one liners all over the place.

So that about sums it up. I could go into even more detail but these are the main things I think would make Gex unique and a just representation of his franchise.

What would you guys think of Gex being in smash Ultimate. Do you all have any ideas for Gex of your own?

Discuss.

I would love this honestly. He’d be a lot of fun to use and to have a character that could actually talk normally, instead of just making noises, would be fun.
