Okay, so you probably all have heard of the [brief] but nevertheless serious war that took place in South Ossetia (which IS Georgian territory) this past August.

I was just wondering what you guys think about it. Who do YOU think started it? Thoughts? Feelings?

I am Georgian so my position is self-explanatory (at least, I hope it is).

Georgia started it. Russian warned not to attack the area, and Georgia did because they thought they had the US backing them.

Although you are correct in the fact that Georgia thought America would help them out, you're wrong in that Georgia DID NOT start the war. The reason why the Georgian Army began the assault on Tskhinvali on August 7 is because of the Russian "PEACE-KEEPING" artillery fire that killed several Georgian soldiers the previous night (a fact many people like to disregard).

And think about it this way: WHY would Georgia start a war against Russia? It is foolish even to think about.

Oh, and more other thing, "South Ossetia" was never Russian. The "Ossetians" were a bunch of filthy, impoverished beggars from Vladikavkaz, the northern side of the Caucasus Mountains, who, in the 17th century, journeyed through the mountains to the North of Georgia, where they begged the Barons of the time to be their servants. What a mistake those Barons made!

Actually, this has come under fire (excuse the pun) over the last several weeks as far as I know. A number of independent sources have indicated that there may not have been any Russian artillery fire on Georgia, and that it was indeed Georgia that initiated aggression. Many sources said they did not hear any shelling of Georgian towns and villages. Here's a NYT article I remember reading:

It's the same thing we do when we warn people not to attack areas that we want for whatever reason. Russia was protecting South Ossetia, Georgia attacked, Russia retaliated.

The facts aren't actually ALL there. That is indeed an interesting article GS, but I was actually there on August 1-6 in Kekhvi which is in the heart of South Ossetia. Already, the village was being evacuated because of the soldiers killed overnight as well as the uninterrupted gunfire (from the Ossetians) the night before.

But then again, what is the use of the story of ONE native Georgian (whose home is Kekhvi) against the word of mother****** Sarkoazy and Putin? Not much right?

Better just to let Russian Propaganda brainwash you guys.

I'm kinda neutral on this, mostly becuase I live in a country that beats the crap out of each other and then doesn't have any steam left for the other countries, but i'm not neutral on the fact that World War III may have ignited from this conflict. I personally believe that it was a good decision for the U.S NOT to back up Georgia. If the U.S backs up the Georgians,as in sending troops there, who where fighting with the Russians, who where actually there, then 50+ years of Cold War would unravel like that. Plus Who do you think is likely going to side with the U.S? In my honest opinion, i think countries would side with Russia, mostly becuase of all the hatred towards Bush.

Though i could be wrong and this post may be worth nothing in the eyes of some.
