Personally, Bioshock surprised the **** out of me by winning GotY. I thought COD4 had it in the bag.

EDIT: I've added the nominees now. Enjoy!

.....Bioshock? I'm sorry i really have no idea what that game is, i thought that call of duty 4 would win. I'm also surprised guitar hero 3 didn't beat out rock band in the best rhythm game and soundtrack

It's not the 360's fault it has so many outstanding games. :D

And Flipstar, how have you never heard of Bioshock? It was definitely one of the best games released this year, and I'd say it had the best single player out of any title released this year.

It's not the fact that all 360 games were nominated for GotY that made me mad: It was the fact that COD4 wasn't nominated.

I'll be honest, i don't think Phantom Hourglass was the best handheld game of the year. IMO, the control scheme could have been a lot better. Personally Etrian Odyssey was one of the greatest Handheld games i've played this year.

Don't get me wrong, PH is a phenomenal game, it's just i don't think it's handheld game of the year material.

And I was surprised Halo 3 wasn't on there for anything. *not nominated, as in actually winning awards* After all the hype and whatnot...

The VGA's are so sad.

SURPRISE SURPRISE: Madden wins another award even though it's exactly like the last 40 Madden games, but with updated player stats!

At least it brings notice to gaming as an industry... *sigh*

I know. I think that's one of the reasons video games will be around for so long, is because of sports. All the sports fans will buy the latest and greatest game, 'cause it has their favorite players and whatnot.

Keep in mind i'm not bashing sports, it's just that personally i was never too big on them. Maybe a hockey game every once in a while, but that's about it. Never anything serious.

It won Best Multiplayer and some bull**** "Most Addicting Game Presented by Dew" award. I could understand having a "Most Addicting Game" award, but having it presented by Mountain Dew, who made the Game Fuel drink which Halo 3 sponsored and was all over the labeling... that just makes the award totally worthless.

Yea really, it was obvious that halo would win the award no matter what.

yea i've never heard of bioshock and i've never played it. I don't own a zbox 360 but i play it often, and none of my friends have the game, all they talk about is halo 3.

When first reading it, I really thought that the OP had put down "Most Addictive Video Game Award Presented by Mountain Dew" as a joke.

Rock Band should have taken best multi-player and GOTY, other than that, the list looks good(at first glance anyway).

Bioshock deservedly won. COD4 is just another example of lack of creativity in the FPS division and Bioshock is the epitome of innovation. Great that a game that deserved it finally won.

Rock Band smokes Guitar Hero 3 hands down.

I'm surprised that the orange box didn't get more awards.
Team Fortress 2 > halo 3 ( halo 2 with different guns & levels in my opinion)

I thought Halo 3 was going to own all after you know, all the reserves and just the sheer number of players that have their heads cramed up it's ***....

Geeze Cashed, being a little harsh? Sinking to the low level of bashing videogames for nonsensical reasons like the rest of everyone?

And you received my PM, I trust?

Also, while I'm here: Rock Band IS confirmed for the Wii, but will be arriving late to the party. That's the last little bit I heard, at least. I'll dig up a source if anyone really wants me to.

And my vote, as a Nintendo fanman, would've gone to SMG for the top game of 2007. That or The Orange Box, simply because it has 4 AMAZING games (Ep. 1 was decent, I suppose) for an absurdly low price. Given, price shouldn't have anything to do with it, but seeing as how these things are reviewed these days, we all know it does.

Then again, I'm not a huge Halo fan.

Bioshock eh...huh that was an okay game...started out great then just kinda lost interest as I progressed...

I would have given it to cod4. That game had more replay value for me, and a multiplayer feature was nice to have.

on that note wouldn't that have been cool if bioshock had a multiplayer feature? I personally would have loved to have a death match with plasmids.

Ah, forgot about my beef with Bioshock:

Everyone, go out and buy System Shock 2. Ok, play through it (it's one of the scariest games of all time, IMO). Done? Of course not, but for the sake of brevity...

Now go play Bioshock. Seem familiar? Of course it does.

Yea, I can't find this anywhere. Even if it would go to Wii, it'd be pretty horrible without DLC, which is one of the big things it has over the Guitar Hero 3 (good DLC, I mean).

Everyone go out and buy Mario 64. Then play Super Mario Galaxy, seem familiar?

Why are they similar? They are both made by the same developer including the developer calling Bioshock the "spiritual sequel" to System Shock.

That's because it isn't confirmed, it's nothing but a rumor held up by Matt from IGN. I completely agree, too, the game wouldn't be nearly as good without downloadable content arriving weekly.

And Sensai, I'd hardly say I was bashing anything. But being harsh? Ohoho, it's only in my nature.

My guess is that they didn't pick the Orange Box because a lot of the material in it was recycled, even if it was a wonderful collection of really great games. It was all great games that had been seen before, in one form or another. Personally, I don't think that's a good reason to deny a game the award, but I think that's probably why they did.

Now, for everyone complaining that CoD4 should have been the game of the year, look at the list again. Notice that while Bioshock won GotY, Cod4 beat out Bioshock for best shooter. Probably because Bioshock had non-shooter elements in it, while Cod4 was more traditional. Again, I think this is silly logic, but it should placate everyone who thinks that CoD4 should have won GotY.

One thing I don't understand, however, is how the Orange Box loses to Bioshock for best 360 game but trumps it for best PC game. The games didn't change all that much from platform to platform, really, so I'm really at a loss to explain that one.

To say that Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy are similar is true in a sense, but not in the same manner that Bioshock and System Shock 2 are.

Here's the Rock Band on Wii article. A quick Google search came up with it. So, I lied. Apologies. Not officially confirmed, but hinted at strongly. My bad.

I was just kidding with you Cashed. You took the joke in good humor, thankfully.

And on this whole ordeal with Rock Band on the Wii, I'm not saying it would good. I agree; the ****ty online plan that Nintendo has just wouldn't accomodate (spelling) what Rock Band needs. Sad...

Guess who's finally getting a 360 this xmas? :)

Finally I can have the heavenly Wii60 combo and game for eternity. I plan on buying Rock Band first thing for my new Elite once I get it.

(Should I even get the elite?)

And Sensai, I agree. Comparing 64 to Galaxy as Bioshock and system shock is different, because Galaxy isn't being renowned for it's originality like Bioshock is.

If any Best soundtrack award doesn't have Galaxy in it, it fails.

Nomination, maybe. But there is no way any game should beat a music game. It's not logical at all. Plus, Spike is owned by Viacom, who also owns MTV, who produced Rock Band. But, I still say the Rock Band soundtrack IS great, so I'm glad they won that one.

I'm happy Bioshock won. It was one of my all time favorite games. It was quite original and interesting.
