2 players at same computer not working for me/solved

so i plug in two controllers and configure them and all. and everything works on both controllers UNTIL i get to the character select screen. then only 1p controller will move, and 2p controller won't respond. any ideas?

check the button config. It is possible that 1p may be right, but for p2, the control stick is the d-pad and the d-pad is the control stick, or something like that.

like i said, everything works for 2p except at the character select screen (and probly in game screen but i can't get their). the joystick works fine to select items, etc. so i don't think that could be whats wrong

That's exactly my point. You can control the menu with the control stick, d-pad, and maybe the c-buttons (not sure about the c-buttons). When I set up smash 64 with no items, stock etc., I use the d-pad. You may be using the control stick on p2, but the game thinks it's the d-pad. That would explain why it works for the menu but not the char select screen.

edit: try selecting the character with the d-pad or the c-buttons. If it works, you have config problems. Either way, check the config

lol i feel stupid. i didn't select anything for the bottom right part which is the joystick i guess. tyvm

No problem. Yeah... button inputs can be confusing sometimes. The control stick and d-pad settings for project and mupen are reversed... so I always put the wrong one in the wrong place lol.
