Mostly thinking of these as platform fighters, given that terms relation to Smash when that (blank) is “gaming”, though we can discuss whether or not a platform fighter fits all of those. All of this is hypothetical, of course, and even mostly disregards copyright, too.

What other medium fits this sort of thing well? Like, less focused on one specific company, though we could think of what company would be a good way to start it, similarly to Nintendo with Smash.

Personal other dream ones aside from a broader gaming one like the Project U/Ultibyte fan game/Crusade mod, or even broader than that one, would be a comics one and an animation one. Again, copyrights would make it difficult, but a mainly Marvel/DC crossover with a less serious tone, featuring a few guests, for instance, could be interesting. Eventually setting it up as a broader comics crossover could be fun, and probably the Marvel VS DC aspect would be a good way to sell it initially and introduce some slightly more obscure characters. Though Marvel and DC alone have a lot to deal with.

I think a toy-based one would be fun and appropriately silly. MultiVersus has dipped its toes slightly, and you could create something interesting with it, but I’m unsure a live-action movie or TV one would fully work, given certain tonal clashes, how different actors/actresses would respond, a lot of that. Literary works could be something to work with, especially if you go mainly public domain and maybe get licenses later. Advertising mascots work tonally, but that is likely the most impossible one to pull off, even for this.

As well, in certain categories, who would you say are must-haves for the roster? Maybe even an “original 12”, to try and limit yourself and see who the most representative + most diversified picks could be? Would there be any special mechanics or things about the presentation to more fit the medium it’s representing? Interested in people’s general thoughts.

There's no way Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl should become a "CeLeBrAtIoN oF cArToOn/aNiMaTiOn hIsToRy". Considering Nick has Live Action shows too. But devs said there won't be, so who knows.

Another NASB, no. Don’t expect Looney Tunes or Inspector Gadget or Gumby or Alvin & the Chipmunks there. Cartoon Network doing another one could approximate it a bit, they have a good, varied animation library, but also MultiVersus and also how Warner corporate treats it is iffy often.
