Not that I agree with those people but I don't recall any official statement about Smash being a "difficult to master" game. From what I've seen, it's something fans come up with.

i feel like there's a very aggressive casual elitist part of the community that nobody really brings up too often, like people who get pissy about project m purely for the fact that it's a mod of brawl and "SNORTS SNOT ITS NOT HOW SAKURA IINTENDED TO PLAY IT!!!! FOAMS AT THE MOUTH"
