Would you rather a restaurant make ten bucks serving 2 customers, or 100 bucks serving 20. You can't please everyone, and from a business standpoint, it makes more sense to try to appeal to the masses then hyper focus on a select group, unless that's what your product's designed to do.

That's a really exaggerated and unfair comparison, keep in mind I'm talking about video games and other media here. A small restaurant (which is what I'm assuming you're talking about) needs a consistent revenue to survive, a big company, such as one selling video games, can get money through over revenues - there is literally no threat of Nintendo, or any other major gaming company, even going bankrupt, let alone bust.
