Venus of the Desert Bloom
Venus of the Desert Bloom
Hey Ben, please don’t take what I’m about to say the wrong way but I have a two thoughts about this post.

1) Sometimes confronting a phobia is the best way to conquer it. Not being able to drive yourself out of town is a pretty crippling phobia to say the least. I’ve seen people rules by phobias (like my friend who has a phobia of being in a car period resulting her just staying inside all day and doing online shopping to get stuff). While I wouldn’t consider it a phobia, I do have a fear of being physically exposed to heights (I can do plans but things like ladders or pedestrian bridges? Nope. Getting me to climb up three stories on a ladder ain’t happening.). While I still get the shakes about it, I feel more confident after I did my first sky diving experience. My second major fear is the open ocean. Miles and miles and miles of darkness and underwater creatures akin of Lovecraftian horror fills my with dread. I have yet to conquer this but it doesn’t impact my everyday life so I’m fine with it. Would it be possible to venture out little by little while planning an exact route to and from out of your town? Unless you are cool with it and don’t mind dealing with it. Not trying to force or lecture you, just one thought.

2) My second and last thought is perhaps a bit more lecture’ish but it’s really meant to show how people might perceive your message(s). For the past week or so, you have been using profile posts to show your support for BLM. This is awesome and admirable to show support for this worthwhile cause and I love to see that energy. My one big issue that I see is, to me, you are using your phobia as a crutch to prevent yourself from going. Like I said, judging from your profile posts, you are adamantly supportive of this cause and I would think that would be enough incentive to overcome your fear. I imagine many joining these protests are afraid of getting killed, attacked, injured, fired from jobs, and a plethora of other fears yet they still go out to show their support and fight against injustice. Again, please don’t take this as an attack on you or an insult because that wasn’t my intent. Hoping all the best for you and let me know if you ever need to talk. I know I can busy and sometimes takes a while for me to respond to a pm but I’m always open to talk things out.
