Yeah, I do not understand why people like the Game Awards or Geoff. Those same people say that Geoff has done much for gaming, BUT that does not mean he is good or fit to be the host of the Game Awards, or is that good of a person...

...What has he even done for gaming? I am starting to doubt it is anything significant.

to be honest... given keighley's history in the industry as a video game journalist, i think he's a pretty decent pick as a host in terms of experience, and he does have experience with television (albeit, g4) dating back to 2003. like, on paper, he's actually a pretty decent choice. (i don't think he's a "paragon" or something, but he does have a place in gaming history given how some of his work was responsible for pushing games journalism forward.)

admittedly his presenting style is a bit dry at times - but at least he actually has at least some appreciation for and knowledge of the games industry (which we absolutely wouldn't get if the 2025 game awards were hosted by like, dwayne johnson, and he has to pretend he knows what an "ape escape" is in front of thousands of people)

i'm agreed on the game awards themselves being a bit of a joke, though. a big part of it is because it's essentially become like 70% advertising, but then there's also weird discrepancies in seemingly basic things like what the definition of "indie" is from year to year, a pathetically small margin of audience involvement in the voting process (at a certain point, either go all in on giving audience votes some weight, or don't bother) and stuff like that. then again almost all of these awards shows are kind of inherently dumb anyways lol

that being said though i'm agreed on "societal impact" of a video game being a dumb thing to make an award about. on a journalistic level i can understand evaluating how different games interact with culture and society in the stories they tell and how they affect the real world but having some sort of award feels like it's some sort of... weird mechanism for gamifying "politics". (in the very, very online sense of the word.)

I am not sure if that excuses how he handles things, KneeOfJustice99. He may have history with the video game industry, but his telling award winners to wrap it up, the trailers, the societal impact thing, saying he supports the environment yet supporting some kind of Crypto game and other things about how he handles the game awards is just poor. Plus, being a journalist for video games and doing those kinds of things are two different things. To me, while he may have done some things for gaming, he is not too good of a person. Maybe not terrible, but you get what I mean.

Plus, I am just not into journalists, as those can be blindly believed in and what they do may (in cases) make people not be able to think for themselves when it comes to anything.
