I think reactions would be mixed. The majority of the fandom prefers to play on classic mode at this point anyway so I don't think most fans would really be effected by that change. But I do think there'd be a small number of hardcore fans who are very upset about it, though not enough to ruin the game for most of them.

On the other hand I can also see people defending that change too, since the way the series has always handled permadeath narratively was always kind of clunky before.

Honestly i play on casual but treat it like classic still resetting or rewinding if anyone dies with casual mode itself being a backup if things get overly difficult.

Personally i dont think it would effect me gameplay wise & would be curious to see they handle a new approach. Think there may be a very vocal group with that kind of change at 1st but if the gameplay with this approach & misc features (story, characters, customization, side activities, etc) are still really good i think most people would get over it.
