I don’t think you’d necessary get in trouble for it but I do dislike it when a story blatantly just doesn’t understand the mythology of a creature they include. Stuff like a wendigo just being “Bigfoot but evil” or a golem just being “evil rock monster” for example

Champion of Hyrule Champion of Hyrule my preferred way is to research the creature a bit and use that in my stories. if feel that if i'm going to make stuff up i might as well make original creatures. which i do as well
