Up to you really. I would say look towards someone who's already near top tier like Pikachu or Sanic (obviously). But if you like Lucina as is then stick to her or wait till Corrin. Who knows what'll happen?

If I'm correct I remember that her landing lag was determined by how long of a combo she performed, and that her moves have a bit of start up time which is pretty similar to how she works in the actual game. Seeing as I played both Bayonetta games so much, I'll bet it'll come pretty naturally...
