Running Smash Tournaments as a Fundraiser

I've been asked by the youth group of my church to run a smash tournament to raise funds for their group. Usually the tournaments I run have all of the entry fee go to the pot (I have a suitable venue, and we have enough volunteers now to bring setups, so usually I don't charge an entry fee), so...

Tournament Entry Fee & Prize Money Questions

The higher the entry fee, the less likely the newer and less competitive players would want to pay just to scrub out in two matches. The more competitive players would rather have a higher prize pool because they could make more money off of their superior skill.

New TO with a few questions

In your position, I would run 8 pools of 5 entrants and depending on time either the top 1 from each pool would form a 8-man bracket or the top 2 from pool would form a 16-man bracket. That is the reason why pools of 4 or 8 entrants are better, because its easier to form a bracket with no byes...

    (Lack of) Gamecube Adapters

The gamecube controllers aren't the problem, its the lack of adapters for each setup that's the problem

New TO with a few questions

That really depends on the amount of time you have, the number of setups and the number of people are playing. I would recommend to have an even number of pools so that brackets will be easier to make (2,4,8 pools are the best, 6 is ok,) If you have an internet connection, Challonge auto-feeds...

    (Lack of) Gamecube Adapters

Hello everyone, I am planning to hold a tournament for Smash 4 for a fundraiser in the coming month, but I have just realized that the demand to use gamecube controllers has gone up among my playgroup, and we only have enough adapters for around half of our setups. I was wondering if anyone had...

    Limited Resources

Thank you for the reply, as what you described to me is exactly what I am expecting for my tournaments (25-30 people tournament in 4-5 hours)

    Limited Resources

Hey guys, the youth group at my church has asked me if I could run a smash tournament to help raise money for them. While the actual business side of logistics should not be a problem, I have run into some problems in terms of other aspects of running a tournament. Basically, the church has...

    How do I make a beginner-friendly event ?

So, while I personally have little experience running tournaments for Smash, I do regularly run tournaments for board games and card games at my old school, that are catered more towards bringing up the new players than just focusing on who is the better player (ex. Friday Night Magic for...

    Swiss-Format Tournaments

Question: Are Swiss tournaments a valid way to run Smash tournaments? Having come from a competitive background in card games such as Yu-Gi-Oh and Magic:the Gathering, I am more used to tournaments run with Swiss-rounds into a top cut single elimination bracket. I have recently started...

    Tournament Mechanics: A Primer

Small question about the concurrency formulas in the opening post, but i was wondering if there was an upper limit in how big the TV variable can go? I'm assuming that (TV =< n/2, where n is the number of participants) has to be true because any other TV setups will go unused. For those who are...
