What is a good secondary to have whilst maining Mario?

I used to use Villager as my secondary. I didn't choose Villager based on the MU spread, but more so for the completley different playstyle that Villager offers.

Sheik's New Matchup Discussion Thread: Ryu

It's best to not try and combo Ryu as hard as you may want to, as @exnecross mentioned it will just end in a trade if you get too greedy, and Sheik WILL lose that trade every time due to Ryu's higher damage output and knockback. Even getting 3-4 fairs into a trade will give you the disadvantage...

Who cover's Villy's weaknesses? (Help with secondaries)

I've used Villager as a secondary to my Mario for a while, but it would work pretty well the other way around too. Mario doesn't lose to hard to anyone, so he works pretty well as a secondary for pretty much any character. That being said, I've recently dropped Mario completley and main...

How can I become more aggressive?

Whenever I start playing aggressive with him I throw out a lloid and follow it, then react to what the opponent does. If they shield, grab (or if they're outside of combo/kill percents I'll bait them to come out of shield with an aerial, shield the aerial and use nair OoS.) If they try to throw...

Is there a preffered control method for Villy?

I have c-stick set to tilts, L bound to jump, and tap jump off.

    Guide Mario matchup thread

:4mario: 60:40 :4rob: ROB is combo food for Mario. There's not much a ROB can do to escape Mario's combos. None of his moves come out quick enough. ROB does have some gyro combos on Mario, but Mario can nair out of a lot of his BnB combos. Seems to me that ROBs good match-ups are the ones...

    Mario MU on Samus? (1)

Really, the only way I see a Mario losing this match-up is if they don't know it well enough. Mario can cape all of the projectiles while hes walking forward trying to approach, then he can just wait for one opening and it's 50% and stage control. I see it as probably 60:40 or maybe even 65:35...

    Guide Mario matchup thread

I think Ness v Mario is a 40:60 MU in favor of Ness. Mario can't do much against this annoying little ****ball. Really the only advantage Mario has over Ness is being able to mess with Ness's recovery. If he tries to recover low, you can use neutral b to hopefully put him in enough hitstun to...

    Mario Stage Discussion Thread

I cp to Lylat a lot, benefits him in a lot of match ups and it gives him platforms to combo off of. He can still kill off the top relatively early if he gets the right chain off, but it can be a little hard to kill with up smash. I think it's a great cp in certain match-ups like Rosa and Sonic.

    Secondaries for Mario

I don't see how Gannon is a bad match-up for Mario. Gannon is combo food, really predictable (and honestly just bad) recovery, if you cape him during it he's done. He has no way of breaking out of up-tilt chains. Neutral is easy, you can kind of just hold shield and wait for him to approach...

How would you change Mario's moveset?

    I'd make his d-air un-escapable. That's all I want.

Do you feel Mario's DThrow combo is situational based on character?

Up-throw is only a better combo starter on fast-fallers like Fox. You can do d-throw -> uptilt on a lot of the cast even at 0%. However, I still opt for up-throw -> up-air on characters that can break out of the up-tilt chain (curse you, Luigi) for an unexpected mix-up. However, you can also...
