Queen of the Underworld: Medusa's Secret Hideout

Athena from that series sure does look a lot like Lady Palutena.

I know I can't help but make Kid Icarus and Pygmalio comparisons, but...

Queen of the Underworld: Medusa's Secret Hideout

Has anyone seen Wonder Woman: Bloodlines? It features in it an incarnation of Medusa voiced by guess who... Cree Summer! Though this Medusa is nowhere near as beautiful as Uprising Medusa.

Queen of the Underworld: Medusa's Secret Hideout

I don't know if any of you got the chance to read the manga Pygmalio. Whilst it has many things in common with the Kid Icarus series and is possibly both the father of Kid Icarus and Zelda, there are some interesting divergences, too. Kid Icarus Uprising for instance is so much more goofy in...

Queen of the Underworld: Medusa's Secret Hideout

Is it just me, or does she have tints of green and purple in her hair?

Queen of the Underworld: Medusa's Secret Hideout

In all seriousness though, what was up with Hades saying he created "that Medusa" out of souls? The game seemed really ambiguous on whether or not that was really Medusa we defeated. Medusa was fine in KIU up until that point. I suppose it would be a bit like if in Super Mario 64 or Super...

Queen of the Underworld: Medusa's Secret Hideout

But then again, Medusa in KIU really was nothing more than a puppet created by Hades out of souls to distract everyone from the real threat.

Queen of the Underworld: Medusa's Secret Hideout

I remember reading an interview Sakurai did with Iwata, where he stated he didn't want to do a Palutena vs Medusa storyline, which is fine, that's well within his rights. But then why include her at all?

Queen of the Underworld: Medusa's Secret Hideout

Does anybody else remember all the hype Medusa got in the run up to KIU being released? If I can recall, she was once a more popular potential rep than Palutena. But when KIU finally came out, the support imploded.

Queen of the Underworld: Medusa's Secret Hideout

Ogre cyclops Medusa from the first Kid Icarus also had a mix of hair and snakes, but she had blonde hair if I recall? (And green skin).

I think we can probably agree that Pygamlio was a huge inspiration for Medusa's redesign in KIU. It looks like they took Shinji Wada's basic design, updated it, and added in a lot of elements from Palutena's redesign and parts of her original design for the first KI. Although the Pygmalio design...

Queen of the Underworld: Medusa's Secret Hideout

I think Hades was the one who cursed Medusa's chances of getting into Smash the minute he showed up and declared that she was 'old news'.

Queen of the Underworld: Medusa's Secret Hideout

I meant an anime adaptation of the manga Pygmalio, which ostensibly seems to have inspired Kid Icarus (and perhaps Zelda), as like Kid Icarus it is loosely inspired by Greek mythology where a colossal but pretty version of Medusa is the main antagonist and has a feud with a rival goddess that is...

Queen of the Underworld: Medusa's Secret Hideout

Luckily, the manga was finished and there's a complete English translation out there. The anime was cut short just before Kurt's last leg of the journey to Medusa's castle, and the final battle. (Yes, just like in KIU, Kurt has to fight his way through Medusa's castle and her minions before the...

Queen of the Underworld: Medusa's Secret Hideout

Sadly, the creator passed away in 2011, and the anime adaptation was never completed, nor is there an English dub or even sub. Shame, as it's probably the closest thing we'll get to a Kid Icarus anime series with Medusa as the main baddie!
