I might be misremembering but I thought I recall reading something where they said that the game was about a quarter of the way finished with a playable prototype finished before cancelation, and that they ended up recycling stuff from it to Shantae Riskys Revenge

Dixie still has pretty strong odds. While a new Fire Emblem character, and a new gen Pokemon rep are guaranteed, if they announce a third Donkey Kong game coming out, I can easily see Dixie being announced as dlc to serve as a sort of promotion.
