I believe if you only press down enough to allow the shine to register it will prevent you from falling through. So instead of smashing down and then B, bring the joystick halfway down (or however much is needed) then press B.

I might be moving to the area to attend the college, is there anybody in the area interested in playing? Possibly even regularly meeting up to play. Or any players I can bus to with samtrans or by bart.
