I believe that having competence in multiple characters can be of value, gives you knowledge of limitations and ease of options for many of the situations that occur. Makes it a bit easier to figure out a character than just by watching it as you start to think less about what you saw and what...

Not necessarily, practice is only study if you're conscious of what you're trying to accomplish, and if you're practicing in the correct ways. To just play against friends, just to show your improved tech skills doesn't mean you're getting better at spacing and reading your opponent, often times...
