You might be a little slow. Try throwing the melon through the hydrant way before the water comes out. You have to be dashing right on the hydrant before you let go of the analog stick and immediately press neutral b. If you're still having trouble, wait for the first water to come out so...

It is indeed glitchy, mmik. You'll see in my video that it happens to me once. You have to z-drop it at the right spot(s). It's hard to get the timing down when you're dealing with lag, however you can get it right with practice.

This sometimes happens to me even when I jump over it and then z-drop it. Distance is irrelevant, I believe it has to do with the key standing upright.

F-smash into hydrant is fast, especially if you fast fall off the hydrant. Also, F-smash will have some priority and helps defend you from other attacks. And the hydrant actually delays the hitbox of F-smash a bit longer too, which is nice.

It really is a bummer! I just discovered something really insane with z-dropping and the hydrant. You don't have to jump at all, you just need to place the hydrant down, run off the side, and z-drop immediately. If you have the key, you'll launch the hydrant really fast. It's really a shame...
