Call me crazy, but I believe that the Smash scene can be revived and come back stronger than ever. I'm excited about the idea and think given the technology and networking we have available, we can start a revolution.
It may seem like a long shot, but anything is possible with hard work!
One of our main resources is networking. Not just with social networking, but networking within our social circles and even to people we suspect might be interested in SSB. Other obvious methods are YouTube, Twitter, Twitch, and especially the forums! The way I see it, there are 3 basic (the idea, not necessarily the action) steps that need to take place in order to get SSB and the community the exposure and recognition it deserves:
1. Unify. As a community, it is important that we are collected and without strife. There is nothing wrong with being competitive, but at the end of the day, our goal should be to maintain an image that portrays SSB as the game that has inspired many to commit their time and effort and has so much to offer- no matter what your abilities are. Another aspect of the first step is networking. As individuals, we should strive to be connected and supportive. Whether it's retweeting a link to someone's Twitch, sharing videos of gameplay on YouTube, attending a local tournament, or just offering advice, everything helps.
2. Outreach. Once we have established strong roots in the community, it'll be time to branch out. Just spread the word and take pride in what you do; others will take notice and show interest in this world of ours. Hopefully, we will have prepared it to be one of the greatest communities and competitive circuit in the history of gaming!
3. No New Friends. Don't forget your day one homies, the ones that have been a part of what we wish to accomplish. Don't forget why you play or what the game is about. Play to win and have fun, don't let the hype get in the way of the real reason we're here: Super Smash Brothers. (This topic title is not meant to be taken literally, you are encouraged to make friends and build relationships, duh.)
