PK Smashing! (Ness guide)

PK Smashing! (Ness guide)

Game Versions
Smash 3DS, Smash Wii U
Hello, and welcome to a guide to Ness techniques and tips. I will be guiding you through some advanced-ish combos for Ness, and some (when done at the correct time and the correct percentage) can land you an instant KO! I will start with how to handle specials, then transition into some of my own!

Standard Attacks

Standard attacks are something I will not divide into sections. These attacks are good for attacking in close range, as all the others for other characters are. Ness's smash attacks are all great for keeping foes off the stage, and should be used as such. I have not developed any special techniques for them, but they should be used nonetheless!

Arial Attacks

UP AIR

Ness's up-air can be devastating if it hits! This attack should be used in combination with other arial attacks to land a lot of blows!

DOWN AIR
Ness's down-air is super useful for hitting a foe waiting for you to come down so that they can hit you. Use it only when recovering from a hit!

SIDE AIR
One of the most useful arial attacks is Ness's side air. This move should be used to your advantage, as if you stay near a foe, it lands multiple hits. Use this to your advantage in tournament play!

Smash Attacks

THE YO-YO

Ness's yo-yo is something I've gotten requests to add in, and it's also an awesome item! Using Ness's yo-yo, you can keep foes in the air, or launch them into the air. This item is used for the down and up smash, and can save you at any time during a match. Heck, it can even hurt Yoshi or Bowser during they're down specials if timed correctly! In addition to this, it can be used to harm Toon Link (or Link for that matter) while he's using his down arial attack, which is a very hard move to pull off, and required precise timing. Using this in combination with PSI Magnet would be a great idea to anyone in the competitive scene...

ONETT BAT
The Onett Bat is probably the most useful item Ness has. This item can reflect projectiles, and it's even saved me from Pac-man's fire hydrant a handful of times! This move is Ness's side smash, and can be used to punish an opponent trying to spam you with projectiles, and can easily send your foes flying if used as simply an attack!

Specials And How To Use Them

PK FLASH
PK Flash is an outstanding move to KO an opponent, the only problem with it is that it requires charge, and thus leaves you open to attack. A solution to this is to use it when somebody's in midair, and as they're landing, release the special button. This has saved me many times, but whatever you do DON'T RELY ON PK FLASH!!!! PK Flash can miss easily, and is very short ranged.

PK THUNDER
A move I like to use so much that when I recently played with my sibling, he called it "p*#is kick thunder", PK Thunder is an outstanding move that many Ness mains should get used to is they want to play competitively. PK Thunder should be the first move you use in a battle to cancel any charged move an enemy might want to use at this time, as it can benefit you later along the line. PK Thunder is also useful to harm a ledge guarder, as you can use this move to hurt them while on the edge of a platform, knocking them away (distance is dependent on you're foe's percentage). It should also be noted that if you hit PK Thunder behind yourself, you can KO anyone very easily if they're percentage is over 100, I also hear a single hit from this technique sends opponents flying!

PK FIRE
PK Fire is a great move to use if you want to stun somebody. When using PK Fire, keep in mind that you can easily KO someone using it in a combo, my personal favorite being "PK Melee". When a foe is in PK Fire, simply use one of three things: a combo (you'll learn plenty of PK Fire combos in the advanced techniques), Ness's side or down smash, or PK Flash.

PSI MAGNET
PSI Magnet is good for recovering using projectiles. This can destroy a Mewtwo main with ease! Just, don't get carried away, some projectiles will still hurt you...

Advanced techniques

PK JUMP
Many Ness mains are familiar with PK Jump, a technique which involves jumping into a PK Fire. This technique is one I find useful for stunning enemies when in a tight pinch!

PK MELEE
PK melee is a technique I created myself, and that I find extremely useful for fighting any enemy. This technique does work on a foe at any percentage, but will not KO them unless they're at 70% or higher. Use PK Fire to stun a foe, then use Ness's grab. Hit the enemy a few times, then use an up-throw, from here, use PK Thunder to hit them up. If this does not work, use PK Flash to annihilate the enemy with ease!

PK RADISH
PK Radish got it's name from Youtube User Radical Radish who taught it to me. PK Radish is probably the most simple "Advanced Technique" to preform: (Enemy must be on high percentage) simply use PK Fire, let the enemy burn a little, then use a grab and back throw. This strategy is simple, yet effective!

PK REALITY
This technique was created by Youtube User therealmrgrim, and I've got to say, it's pretty good! Keep in mind that the enemy should be somewhere over 85% when this technique is used! Use PK Fire, followed by a short hop, and then try another PK Fire, then grab the enemy, and throw them in any direction, the use a PK Thunder to throw them off the screen!

PK UNEDIT
PK Unedit is an unedited version of Youtube User therealmrgrim's Ness technique. This one is also very tricky... Use PK Fire, then do a short hop and do PK Fire while this is going on, next grab and do two jabs, after this you'll want to do a down throw, and then three more PK Fires, after which you'll grab again, up throw and PK Thunder! Now that's a mouthful for you!

SMASHING PSI
Smashing PSI is another technique created by yours truly, and is simple yet effective. Use PK Fire, then use a fully charged side smash. This can work miracles in later portions of a match!

THUNDER ROCKET
Thunder rockets are super easy to preform! Simply use PK Thunder on the side opposite of you're direction, and hit yourself. Don't worry, you will not take any damage from this

BIRDIE FISHING
Birdie fishing is one of my favorite techniques! Simply have the foe in the air, then use a Thunder Rocket and presto! You've done a successful Birdie Fishing technique!

THE JUGGLE
The Juggle is simple. Just use Ness's yo-yo and PK Thunder to keep a foe in midair!

This isn't ForGloryboards. And even though I don't use Ness that much, most of these "techs" would never work if the opponent knows how to use the shield button and the circle pad properly.
Sorry, but none of these will work in competitive settings.
You also hardly mention his amazing aerial game.
I'm not trying to be rude or anything..., but this Ness guide isn't very useful at all.

First off, Ness is a very aerial heavy character and you have 2 of his aerials and whatever side aerial is. There are 5, and most of Ness's aerials are amazing! Nair is one of the most important aerials and you don't even include it.. Also his dair should pretty much never be used.

Second, none of Ness's smashes are really reliable for killing. You also don't even mention Ness's back throw, which is his main kill option. Most of Ness's kill options come from edgeguarding, back throw, and aerial kills. Very rarely do you kill with a forward smash.

Finally, none of these "advance techniques" are not viable for tournament play. None of these would work on anyone decent at the game, maybe if you went on for glory and plays against someone who plays the game for fun... Using Pk fire more than once is VERY situational, and it's pretty easy to get out of if not used in the right situation.

Also, none of this review is to bash you or hurt you for making a bad guide, I just want to help you learn how to play Ness at more of a tournament level, and not spread bad information to new Ness mains who are going through Smashboards trying to find information about their new main. Remember, I'm not trying to hurt your feelings, i'm trying to help you learn more about the amazing character who is Ness!

I totally understand, no hard feelings!
This was really helpful and I improved from it.
I really don't like this guide.

-Doesn't actually apply to all games, just SSB4
-Only covers Smash Attacks, Specials and Techniques (Not Really Techniques)
-Ness has a good aerial game. I'm not sure why you didn't put that there, or his ground attacks....

Quite disappointing.
