INTRO
Hi, my name is Cocho. I recently started up a YouTube channel with one my friends & we wanted to do all kinds of helpful smash videos to help others improve. Although we aren't pros or anything like that, I do feel like we have knowledge about the game.

This is a short beginner's guide to playing smash bros in a way that they some might not have thought about before. Since this IS a beginner's guide, I tried not to make this so basic that it's useless, but basic enough that following it to learn from is easy. We're currently working on more advanced guides for the future.

Approaching & Punishing:

When appraoching you're going to want to use safer attacks. Running up & doing a smash attack against higher skilled opponents will get you punished.

A short hop is when you quickly tap "UP" or any button that you have set as jump. If you hold the button longer, you will get a full hop.
Approaching with a short hop is usually better than a full hop since it is quicker & your opponent has less time to react.

Depending you character, usually a "NAIR" is a good attack for approaching since it is fast and usually as little lag after it. After a "NAIR", jabbing could help prevent you from being punished depending on how you character works. Different "TILTS" will help you follow up if your opponent has approached you, or if you've already approached.

You can also wait & have your opponent approach you. If you do this, you're going to have to look for an opening to attack. If you shield or spot dodge (shield + down) an attack, you can usually hit you opponent will an attack (This is called punishing). Most of the time you won't be able to punish with your strongest attack, so learn what you can do to get the most damage. If you don't have much time, a grab is usually the best option. If you opponent is in kill percent, try to punish with you character's kill moves.

KO-ING:

Learn what you character can do to KO.
Try the things that aren't so obvious, like grabs, special attacks, and air attacks. Learn what percent they usually KO at.

Most of KO-ing was shown in the video. A short list to note would be that,

1. Sweetspots: Examples, Tip of Marth's sword, Jigglypuff's rest, Captain Falcon's timed "FAIR"

2. Weight: King Dedede being heaviest & jigglypuff being the lightest.
Learn what your opponent does to kill & avoid that when you're in kill percent.

3. Rage Mechanic will make your KOs happen alot earlier. Your character will blink red when your damage above 100%. (Only applies to Smash 4)

RECOVERING:
Learn what your character can do to recover.
Many characters can use moves other than thier up-special to recover.
Try out you characters side-b & down-b in air, also see if you character has a wall jump.

To do a wall jump, hug a wall while falling and point the joy stick away from the wall. To stick onto a wall, point the joy stick towards the wall (not all characters can do this).

Characters like Link & Samus can use their grab to hook onto the ledge.

EXTRA
You can learn a lot from watching how pros play the game. If you're wondering of a good channel to watch these guys, VGbootcamp is a great channel.
