At best, it means they were thinking about doing it, ASSUMING that they were working on the game.

HAL Labs, the studio who did Smash 64 and Melee, is not working on Brawl. They didn't know they'd be working on the sequel.
To clarify, a lot of the original team did return...

"Additionally, there are several people in Tokyo with experience developing Smash Bros., and it was decided that they would join the team."
http://www.smashbros.com/en/story/page_3.html

I'm not sure how much of the team that means... But enough to mention... And in addition there seems to be the entirity of another team Kojima refers to as "the Studio." Officially, the development of the game will be credited to "Sora Ltd," Kojima's company founded for the development of Brawl...

Visiting from above.
I realize that. But, none of them knew if they would be working on the sequel. My point is that it's unlikely they were thinking five years in advance when they wrote out a simple trophy description.

And by Kojima, I assume you mean Sakurai? Hideo Kojima is the creator of Metal Gear Solid. Masahiro Sakurai is the director of the Smash series (among other things).

I understood your point, but when you said "Hal labs... is not working on Brawl" I thought it could be a little misleading and decided to point out that at least part of the team returned, just no longer as "HAL."

And Jeez, I can't believe I switched their names... twice in one post... while looking at the OS... Probably because I was not familiar with Kojima and only passingly aware of Sakurai until a few days ago...

Pertaining to the whole Pit trophy argument, remember that Nintendo previously stated that he (as well as the Balloon Brothers) were considered when deciding which old NES character to add to SSBM. They (obviously) eventually chose Ice Climbers. Perhaps that's why the description reads as it says - at the time, the development team knew that Pit had been a possibility, and thus added it in there.

Totally off topic, but...
What do you think characters special moves will be?

Doctor Mario; GIANT PILL.......yeah.....
Giant pill? Nah.

Perhaps he can combine anti-steroids and sionide, than make them eat it...?

As for Y. Link, he should take out a bathtub filled with milk and start to drink it. The milk would then fly out of his nose and ears.

As for the new pics... Meh. I wish that they would show some of the old characters. We all already know how cool Meta Knight and Pit look...

Special attack from doctor mario: VIAGRA. If you get hit by viagra you can't run and your attacks will become weaker LOL

My theory on meta knight is this.... Gannon version of Kirby. Done. lol

This could work though. Heavier kirby, stronger attacks... Can you imagine what it'd be like to fight a floating power house? Ever imagine gannon with wings?

*EDIT* As for the specials, if luigi is in the game, i can imagine his special being his Karater chop (Fair in ssbm) growing as big as the stage, and just slaming down.

Does anybody here thinik that this game won't come out until the end of next year? It's really funny how I thought Nintendo has been working on this game for a while.. It was really sad news when I heard they just started on this...

the think is, if the game was released at it's launch date, the online capabilities will only allow to play 1 on 1. that's one release why the game was delayed; they want to have 4 players total to be playable online. i need to find the source for this later on by the way. anyways, yea, anyone else opening the thread, look at my previous post. E3 Wii games running on gamecubes! ftw

I have the wallpaper where you see all the characters looking at Wario who just crashed his motorbike and I noticed the same that MetaKnight is quite big on that: bigger than Pit who is in front of him.

I just realised that Rare can still develop games for Nintendo's handheld systems, they announced at E3 that they're making Diddy Kong Racing DS. So I don't think Microsoft owns Rare, I think they just have a contract with them that prohibits them from developing games for other consoles. So Rare might be able to let Nintendo use characters like Banjo & Conker in Smash, since they still wouldn't be developing a game for Nintendo. But I'm not really sure how all that works.

Where did you get that from? All Sakurai said was that he's going to do his best to make SSBB have online, but he thinks it might be hard to make 4 players online work. He never said anything about that having anything to do with the game being delayed.

Metaknight is about the same size as Kirby.

Metaknight isn't going to be a kirby clone is he? That possible forward smash in one of those pictures is identical to kirby's..please nintendo don't be lazy on this.

That would be impossable. Near all of Meta Knight's attacks shown so far utilitize his sword, wings, and other unique features.

Wings could be used for multiple jumps, and it just showed an attack that didnt use the sword so nothing is impossible.

Although MK is a swordman (and that makes him completely different from Kirby), he may share some moves with him ala Mario-Luigi. But that doesn't make MK a Kirby clone.

If you watch the live game footage, you will see MK is the same size as Kirby. This is particularly noticable when MK garbs kirby. And the reason MK looks larger than pit is becuase he is larger around, but in reality,he is only 1/2 of Pit's height.

Well, you're wrong, because he's not.

Metaknight just looks alot bigger because his hands are huge compared to Kirby's, & he has shoulder pads, wings, & a big sword. I don't remember him ever being way bigger then Kirby in any of the SNES games, so I don't see why he would be now.

I don't know what you guys are looking at. MK only looks about 10% bigger than Kirby to me. He might APPEAR bigger because of his wings/cape, sword, shoulders and mask, but he isn't much larger.

Freeman, as to Rare, I believe Microsoft does have a controlling share of them, but because they have no interest in entering the handheld market, they have allowed them to make games for GBA/DS.

Its sort of too bad, because Rare haven't done much for the XBox. They did the sequel to Perfect Dark, and thats about it. They produced a massive string of hits with the DKC franchise, and then with Banjo-Kazooie, and now their biggest hits are ports of those games to portables. I believe they originally wanted to leave Nintendo after Nintendo turned one of their in development franchises into Star Fox Adventures, and so Nintendo just sold them to Microsoft.

who cares which character is bigger, lets continue with the topic of super moves, new charcters wanted, possible new modes, etc.

for snakes special should be that he calls in a metal gear and it unloads all its munitions (spelling? or ammo) into the other player(s).

edit

I can't see how people are thinking that Metaknight is a clone of Kirby. Is Gannon a clone of Link? Bowser, a clone of Mario? Mewtwo a clone of Pikachu? No. Metaknight and Kirby look completely different. Metaknight is bigger. He has a friggin' sword. There's a video of him attacking with his sword. That appears to be his primary weapon. Kirby kicks and punches and sucks. The only "sword" is his Up-B (which we know remains the same).

On another topic, is anyone else concerned that Pikachu and Kirby are still going to suck this game? From the video, it looks like it. It seems to me that they're moves haven't changed whatsoever (the only move that was changed for the original 4 was Link's forward-A in the air - it now swings twice, as the video shows). It showed Kirby's forward-B in the air - his weak-*** hammer yet again. I'm concerned that Kirby's forward B (as is Pikachu's skull bash and other attacks of the sort) will remain completely useless, and thus decrease their potential. I was really hoping that all characters would be somewhat equal - it makes for a better game. But right now, I'm concerend that that won't be the case. We'll see, though, we'll see - right now it's way too early to tell.

It was a crazy suspicion I didn't actually firmly believe it.

Anyways as I said it was a crazy thought I just saw that metaknight could multi-jump, his f-smash looked the same, and his f-air hits three times. But he has the sword so he's not a clone

Yeah, it really is far too early to tell. I believe they haven't even touched the moveset of Mario/Kirby/Pikachu yet, only gave them a new design. Sakurai himself said he was surprised they were even able to get that trailer out, so that means to me they haven't really done much aside from basic game design work. Link being the only character to show visible changes seems to be tied to the fact that they had to completely redesign him for Twilight Princess-mode, rather than just touch up the sprite like the other 3 characters.

I dunno about his fair swinging twice but Link's dair now goes straight through instead of bouncing.. that was the change I noticed...

Hopefully the other movesets will be or are altered... hmm
