in ballot days I'm sure not, because the most requested (aside from Impa I think) was alredy in the game as something, but that would be predictable since for us the ballot was for Smash 4, I think with the "Smash4 Trophies" they made other thing to know its popularity

I remember people drummed up some buzz for Girahime (or however you spell that weirdos name) before he was revealed as an Assist in WiiU. And now that Skyward Sword is old news I don’t think people care all that much.
As for Skull Kid I think he did have some supporters. Most of the hype around him is the “clues”. But honestly if a new Zelda rep we’re to be introduced, I’d have a hard time thinking about anyone other than Skull kid. He’s easily identifiable to not just Zelda fans, but fans of Nintendo in general.
I know people say Impa, but eh. As someone who’s never play Majoras Mask I’d rather see Skull Kid than a Shiek clone or, god forbid, yet another Link clone.

You're thinking of individuals, like Isaac. That's why I was saying it's not a fair comparison. The Zelda demand is the sum of all parts, and Zelda itself as a series has had characters highly requested for all Smash games, and it's a massive series within gaming. If Skull Kid gets in, or any other new Zelda rep, it's not necessarily because the character itself was that popular. If Isaac gets in, like K. Rool or Ridley, it's because he himself is popular. It's a different standard.

Well, Hyrule Warriors was easily one of the most succesful games on the Wii U. It could've influenced a lot of votes on the ballot for characters in that game.

How many Zelda characters could you possibly ask for? Grouping them all together like Custom Robo or pokemon would make sense since there's TONS and TONS of those. Zelda might be popular. But I'm not too sure that they would group them together even if they wanted to. Because what? There's about 3 or 4 characters from Zelda that people want?
I'm not entirely sure what you mean. Skull Kid would be the Zero Suit Samus in Brawl mentality though: Sakurai added her because fans were asking for more characters from the series. Metroid itself was popular. Zelda is popular.
Isaac would be added because Isaac is popular.

I don't know how to tag but I'll gladly join the Isaac Support list. I used to cut class in high school with my Game Boy Advance. Hiding behind my forestry class greenhouse i played Golden Sun and Banjo Kazooie Grunty's Revenge and kinda fell in love with both series at the same time. I just want all the fan favorite characters to get in, and this thread is clearly poppin. Hope all goes well

I mean, he's not exactly a newcomer if I'm being honest. But he does pad out the LoZ lineup.
And game franchises like Metroid only had 1 character at that point. (As interesting as the Metroid universe is, I'm surprised it took 2 ENTRIES to get a second character. Then it took 2 more entries to get 2 more.)
Zelda has like Link, Toon Link, Young Link, Ganondorf, Zelda, and Sheik.
That's six characters.

You're not buddy, I think Skull kid popularity skyrocketed recently due to the possible "hints". But honestly before that you would barely hear about him, at least not more than other Zelda characters.
Well the problem with many popular franchises of nintendo is that they lack of possible newcomers, most are enemies from one game only, or are just too big. Like Skull Kid we know(with majoras mask) only apppeared in one "main" Zelda Title, as most Zelda Villain outside Ganon variants, since most franchises just have one or maximum of three main playable for all the games

I was thinking if we got Skull Kid to represent Majora's Mask we could get an echo Impa based on her Skyward Sword appearance.
I'm kinda biased since her Skyward Sword appearance is my favourite one.....but it would fit in with how Zelda characters are representing different games in the series.

Vaati is all capcom, the artist who designed him works at capcom. Even though 4 Sword Adventures is not done by capcom Vaati only shows up in his eyeball form.

I think the point he was trying to make was that cloud was included for other reasons not for the fact he made cameo appearances and that cloud would probably still be here should those cameos have not happened

No Sakurai straight said he went to Square with the idea of getting Cloud he even laughed at picking someone from the Nintendo FFs over him. It's very clear Sakurai had no intention of getting any other character besides Cloud.
He was but that wasn't what I meant. I meant those few cameos were enough that Sakurai didn't have any second thoughts which he mentioned he might have had if Cloud was never on a Nintendo console. And what he called a poor justification was literally Sakurai's justification.

Yes. We do need this to happen. It also gives the Skyloft stage a character to call it their "home" even if Skyward Sword's Impa never sat foot on Skyloft. She's still undeniably one of the most important Zelda characters in lore.

Well also Cloud is easily the most recognizable FF character by about a mile and a half. Even people who know nothing about FF know who Cloud is and that he's from FF7 (which is also the most successful game in Square Enix's history, selling 13 million units, a good 2 million more then the next game down, Tomb Raider). He's also symbolic considering FF7 was the first non-Nintendo game in the series and his being in Smash represents the making of amends between Nintendo and Square Enix.

Like I don't deny the reasons why he got in, it's just they are really poor excuses in my eyes and I still believe that Cloud doesn't fit in a Nintendo roster. But it's just my thoughts, I don't realy mind him being in or not in the end since I stoped caring for this series ages ago. It's good for his fans I guess.

What if Sakurai appears to you one night and offers you a deal. You can get Issac just the way you want him but the rest of the roster will be only Shreks and Gokus, or you can have Felix but the only stage available would be final destination, or none of them in but the game as it is so far.

That might be even more difficult if Vaati is a 3rd party character in the way Geno is.
Why does Nintendo make deals like this where they create character that are connected to their universe, but are also owned by a different company? They put too much trust in 3rd parties sometimes.

I have no idea. You'd think one time would be enough for them to learn but at the same time, it's still up in the air about who owns Vaati so maybe they did learn. Someone really needs to ask Nintendo or Capcom about Vaati's legal status.

So I looked this up.
Apperently, I've come to the conclusion that Capcom owns their Legend Of Zelda quadrology.
The Oracle games, Four Swords, And Minish cap are some of the most notably absent games that's have yet to have representation.
Heck, Capcom even has a copyright on them.
Yep. Until we managed to get a demand going for Capcom's Legend of Zelda games having representation in Smash, they might just fall into obscurity.

Capcom is collaborating with Smash since we have Ryu and Monster hunter but I really doubt Vaati is even considered.
I mean, yes. You're not wrong, Young Link does add a new character to the Zelda lineup.
This is why I said probably, though: Skull Kid probably has a better chance than Isaac. I don't think it's necessarily one or the other here, either. It's entirely possible to get both Skull Kid AND Isaac. I just personally think a new Zelda character is the likelier bet. I'm a fan of Golden Sun and the character and am rooting for both characters for this game.

The whole idea of collaborating with 3rd parties is fueled by the fans desires for those characters.
People wanted Ryu and Mega man, but would Nintendo want to ask for their Legend Of Zelda games representation? No matter what, Nintendo still has to pay for licensing, and they would want to pay for something that was commonly requested, otherwise, it's just wasted money for them.

Vaati and the Four Sword still appear in Four Swords Adventures, which was Nintendo-developed. That would normally be enough for me to believe Capcom doesn't retain any rights over those titles (I also didn't see the copyright you mentioned unless it was somewhere in their credits sequences). However, I do find the repeated absence of those four specific games strange so there could be some odd legal quirks in there that Nintendo is just apathetic to fix.

Skull Kid demand has really ramped up these last few years after Majora's Mask 3D and Hyrule Warriors.
Also you gotta consider the iconic status of the Majora's Mask itself. People who don't know the Zelda series at all recognize it. The design of that thing is odd, crazy, a weird mix of things and yet somehow is unique, cool as heck and perfect.
That iconic mask is a key reason why we are inevitably getting Skull Kid

Vaati's design doesn't actually appear in his own form.
Capcom owns all the design and all of the music of their games. That's why none of the music from that game apeears, nor does any levels, nor does vaati. Because that was created by Capcom.
The 4 colored links? Owned by Nintendo. That's why they're in another game, and somewhat represented in Smash.
Okay, so what that's would tell me is that Nintendo cares more about Phantom Hourglass than any of the games Capcom made.
(Also, can anyone confirm if it said that with SMRPG?)
