That. The later stages of the levels are nothing like eachother so, so long as the games are long enough, you'll see an aesthetic difference. Would be nice to have them transition to the grassland rather than from though to alleviate the initial problem.

Am I the only one who's somewhat bummed that all of the Mario stages for 3DS are pretty similar aesthetically? I mean, they all function differently so that's good, but all three of them are based on the early grass stages of their respective games...
Honestly, they're all so samey that I've lost track of how many there are. I keep thinking that Golden Plains and 3D Land are the same stage, for example.

It's kind of depressing that we have 4 "New Super Mario Bros." stages so far (those games have among my least favorite aesthetic qualities in the entire industry). We've got Mushroom Kingdom U, 3D Land, Golden Plains, and this new stage (I consider 3D Land to be "3D New Super Mario Bros." and Sticker Star to be "New Paper Mario Bros.").

What are you guys thinking about the music for the 3DS stages? There's only going to be two per stage.

I'm thinking one arrangement and one original. Although I won't rule out two arrangements per stage, but I don't think they're going to have two originals per stage.

To be fair, NSMBU feels aesthetically different to the other NSMB games, more blues, purples and other cool colors. And 3D Land is an amazing looking game.

I was happy with Melee's 2 per stage so, if they do the 3DS' well, I see no problem.

Guys, I just finished EarthBound, and got the best stage idea ever!

So as someone who played Smash Brothers before Mother, I can safely say that the peaceful towns and cities like Onett and Fourside only represented a portion of the games' atmosphere. I decided to introduce a stage that should help emphasize some darker themes in the series by choosing the most evil place in, well, basically any Nintendo game.

Final Battle (Earthbound)

Giygas1.png

This is the initial look of the stage (it's a transforming stage, btw). It centers around the last moment before the final boss in EarthBound when you fight Porky and this weird, intestinal mess you see before you. This is known as the Devil Machine, which harnesses Giygas and his true power, at least for the time being. The stage layout itself is reminiscent of Final Destination, with no platforms or any real hazards. But then the devil machine is shut off and the stage transforms!

Giygas2.png

This is the second phase of the stage. In the background, you can see the true form of Giygas, and he'll occasionally send out shock waves at the players (think along the lines of Tabuu's waves, but heavily nerfed and easily evadable). Other than that, the stage layout is fairly consistent throughout. This stage basically loops around infinitely.

Music:

Heavily Armored Porky
Sanctuary Guardian
Kraken
Otherworldly Foe
Even Drier Guys
Unfounded Revenge / Smashing Song of Praise
Master Porky's Theme

I'm unsure if this is the right place to mention this, but this thread does simply say stage discussion as it's title so... N's Castle has just been revealed as a 3DS stage. Not much was shown of it but it seems to have a Spear Pillar feel to it, with legendaries popping up in the background (and I'm going to assume they'll be affecting the stage).

So glad to see N's Castle. I wanted a Gen V stage so badly. Not feeling any of the Gen VI stages (never felt like Kalos had enough locations conducive to good stage design). My only complaints with N's Castle are that it's probably 3DS exclusive (want to see it in HD), and that Milotic appears. I mean...what? Maybe it's actually a stealth appearance by Zoroark.

When Milotic joins the battle, Alfonzo takes the role as the stage-hazard Pokemon that makes no sense!

Really didn't like Spear Pillar. Really didn't like Gen 5. Combing the two makes me sick. I was hoping Cerulean Cave, or even Pokefloats 2. I want a stage that focuses on Gen 1 and Gen 2 Pokemon. I do however, like Milotic, because I liked Gen 3.

I really loved gen 5, probably my favorite gen overall, and N's castle was probably the best area in the game.
I really hope the music playing here is the N's final battle theme.

I just want a better stage creator. Or will Sakurai not do one at all this time because of the whole PM mod abuse of it? Will he make us pay for our sins? That man has the scorn of a wo..a worried, tired man.

Well I don't think sakurai will take out stage creator for that specific reason. But I did like the stage Creator and I hope he keeps it in. I'm not sure it the 3ds version will have but I hope the WiiU version gets it with a lot more stuff to add in.

Its a good thing each mario level does something different, but i t would of been great to see different themes like maybe a Bowser's castle or a airship level.

I guess we'll have to wait for the 3DS release before they start showing more Wii U stages again.... But I really hope the past stages don't count as a characters main stage for the game.

I thought we could have these Metroid stages on the Wii U version!
Pyrosphere, Norfair (Brawl), Brinstar Depths (Melee) and a Metroid Prime Trilogy Stage. This stage would have us fight on top of Samus' Gunship (design from Prime 3) and would take us through Chozo Ruins, Phendrana Drifts, Sanctuary Fortress, Temple Grounds, Bryyo, Elysia and the Pirate Homeworld. It would stop at each location and we'd use the environment to fight on, as well as platforms passing by while the ship is flying.
I know this isn't the right place for it, but here are my ideas for the 3DS version: SR388: Alpha and Beta Metroids as stage hazards, Zeta Metroid as boss. Fusion based stage with Nightmare as boss. He'd change up the gravity so fighters are thrown into different walls (of course, the camera would follow each player), so you'd have to jump and use aerials to attack. Of course, attacking Nightmare's tail would eventually defeat him and set the gravity straight.

I really want Saturn Valley to be a stage! It's simply too amazing and cute not too put it this time!
Also, I would love DK minecart levels to be present in some way in the stages.
I would also love a tour through Diamond City on Orbulon's ship :)
C'mon Sakurai, gimme what I...er I mean the fans want!

Just counted.. there's 41 stages in Brawl, including the Melee stages. There's currently 19 confirmed stages for the Wii U version (basing it off the console as I'm sure the 3DS may not have as many stages)

We're more than likely getting at least equal, if not more stages this time around... Which means there's a minimum of 22 stages still unknown. Dang. Zelda, Pokemon, Star Fox and Metroid still need their second stages, whereas Kirby, Earthbound and F-Zero haven't even gotten representation yet. Even so, all those together only adds up to 10 more stages. Wonder if Pokemon and Zelda (maybe another or two) are getting 3 stages this time around? Not counting their retro stages, if they even get them. Or what "WTF" stages we're getting this time (Hanenbow why do you exist)

Hanenbow made a lot of sense as a stage, representing one of Nintendo's more unusual creations that couldn't really have fitted Smash in any other way. It did a great job of showing off its origins, too. The only thing it failed at was being fun to play on.

I liked Hanenbow enough for what it was. Only the water and occasional odd platform physics bothered me. The layout itself was something I didn't mind too much. It's definitely not what I'd consider a "good" stage, but I don't think it's the worst stage ever made. I think 75m, Mario Bros., and Rumble Falls are all worse.

Oh, that makes me more hopeful for a Paper Mario one.

Which does help my tease theory. Good...good.

But I tough there was more. I guess I overhyped them.

Tetris, Mario Land, Pokemon, and Kirby's Dreamland are musts for this stage.

Others i'd like to see are Alleyway, Gameboy Camera section, Mega Man V Gameboy version (Star Droid hazard), Link's Awakening, Metroid II, Kid Icarus: Myth's and Monsters, and Donkey Kong Country. (FLYING PIGS!)

Cool, new gameboy stage. I hope it has a hidden backdrop when you press up, up, up, up, right, down, down, down, down, down, down, B on the stage loading screen.
