Riivolution Q&A and Help Thread

Hello,
I'm rather new to this and am having a problem with getting Riivolution v1.02 started. When Riivolution loads, it simply states "Insert SD/USB..." in the top left corner and only gives me the Exit option.
The card is set up as such:
apps\riivolution
riivolution\SSBBtemplate.xml
ssbb\FitToonlink03.pcs

Using the same setup on a different card causes it to load and then gives me the \SSBB Replacement option as well as Install, Launch, and Exit. Launching works normally and the patch for Toon Link is applied correctly. It should be noted that this working card is full of other things including the most recent gecko OS and Brawl + modification including the working Toon Link mod, I don't think this would affect Riivolution, but I don't know. The non-working card is completely empty save for Homebrew Browser located in the apps folder.

This leads me to believe the card is at fault.
The malfunctioning card is a 32 GB Class 6 Transcend SDHC Card.
The working card is a 2 GB 60x speed pq1 SD card.

Is there any way to remedy the situation so I can get the 32 gb sdhc card to work?

I'm using an 8GB SDHC card with Riivolution... it works really nicely because it's a big card.

Ok, i input my PT pcs. in each individual folder.
Then i start Brawl, pick PT Squirtle, and my texture is fine, then when i switch, Ivysaur is normal color, the Charizard is normal color, and back to Squirtle, who is now normal color.
PT in the BG keeps his texture though.

I decided to add the PAC.'s to PT and Pokemon, I start Brawl, Pick PT Squirtle, but now the weird part, if i try to switch Pokemon, or if i die, the game freezes, and there is a long, consistent (Annoying) buzzing sound.
What did i do wrong?

Edit: Got the texture to work, but oddly, it doesn't appear on startup; I have to switch or die for the texture to run.

The .pac and .pcs files have to match. The .pcs file is just a compressed version of the .pac file. Don't make the same mistake that I did and just copy the moveset .pac file and rename it with a number at the end.

I only input the PAC. since the PCS. only worked for one pokemon, each game.
To be clearer, i start the game as textured Ivysaur, but if i cnage for any reason, the texture stops altogether until the next match.

But with the PAC. instead, it DOESN'T start on texture, and requires me to switch or die to start the texture.

You're telling me i need BOTH the PAC. and PCS. in the same folder?

How do I enable codes using the XML on the OP? My options are... The various hooks and of course "disable". Selecting ANY of the hooks causes the Wii to silent freeze at the black screen before the strap menu. (V1 Hook however creates a trippy greenish screen while doing so though...) I really want to enable codes from the RSBE01.gct badly... Can someone say what I am supposed to do, or create an XML more suited for the job? ^_^; Thanks.

Do you have a codehandler.bin file in /Riivolution, and a gameconfig.txt file in the root?

I got Riivolution working with my 32gb sdhc. Fully upgraded my hacked wii from 4.1 to 4.2. Can't believe I didn't think of that sooner.

One small thing: I just used the pc downloader from smashmods.com to set up Brawl+ on both cards and everything is running smoothly except for buffers. The buffers themselves work as far as I can tell, but the game says "Handicap" not "Buffers" on the character select screen. Is this an error or was this recently changed? It used to say Buffers on my 2gb sd card (when I was using gecko os) but now it says handicap on both. Other visual modifications seems to be in place such as the title screen saying "Brawl+" and "Super Fun Speed Activating" for the loading screen.

Aside from that, I just need to set up Riivolution to have specific mod selection such as choosing between Fighter/Cosmic Geno and Toon Link, but I'll read through the thread later to figure that out and, failing that, harass you kind folks again.

If the textures it seems you only have Captain Falcon and Pokemon Trainer... is this correct? Or do I need to add a line for EACH of my character texture files (eww).

Also, what does "recursive=true" and "resize=true" on the folders mean?

Those lines are there because the disc refers to those textures with a "_en" at the end of the name. The File Patch Code allows you to omit those but you'll need them for Riivolution unless you intend to make a file specific reference to them (hence their inclusion).

Right I understand that, but do I need to add a texture mapping for ALL of my characters like Zelda and Mario? Or is it only needed for that one Captain Falcon file and the PT files?

edit: Hozu covered that for me.

You do not need to add the "_en" for Falcon/PT. The lines in the XML basically fix that, so it's easily transferrable from File Patch Code to Riivolution.

Also downs, good catch, I forgot to add in common3. common2/common4/common5 is included with textures.

If it helps, when i get them, they start of as "Fit{name}MotionEtc.pac

They just stick to all colors?

Sorry, I forgot to mention the Folder reference line will look through the folder and pick up any properly named file. Same with through the subfolders, if the subfolders are properly named as well. So only the characters listed have a specific line because the rest of the characters are properly named when they don't have the "_en", which means they're loaded by the folder reference line.

Is there a way to set up riivolution so that it can choose between BBrawl and Brawl- from the riivolution menu? I'm have no experience with xml and just barely got it working today after some trial and error. If I can do this, can you explain what I need and how to do it.

Thanks Bionic Sonic! I've been wanting to redo my xml file for a while now but haven't had the time. This will speed things up greatly.

What's the purpose of smashbros_sound.brsar? I downloaded it a while ago... not sure what it is/does and why I'd want it.

EDIT: Also, does anyone else have problems with the wii freezing when the SD card gets taken out? This only happens while using Riivolution (not GeckoOS). I liked being able to take the SD card out, load up characters/stages without textures, then put it back in for music... This was somewhat convenient for tournament matches.

smashbros_sound.brsar is basically the sound effects file. It's swappable between English, Japanese or even custom ones (I think the guide is elsewhere in the Workshop, and the Tales project in CC has a custom SFX one as well).

For the SD card issue... that's known, and apparently that's on purpose... though as to why I don't know.
