I vote Falcon only or low tiers only.

@Quaz: There is no right or wrong way to play melee, and the game developers realized this. That's why you can turn items and stages on or off as you please. You can play your way, and they can play their way, and neither of you is wrong.
As for the advanced techniques idea: I don't know about you, but to me, watching as link takes an eternity to pull his sword out of the ground after a dair is less fun than L-canceling it and running off to do something else. Others don't want to put in the huge time commitment to learn ATs, practice, and compete in this game, and thats fine too.

Anyone know anything about getting videos? If no one else is doing it, I am looking into getting the stuff needed for recording videos for us.

Frank, I talked to Sam and we're thinking low tiers. Probably Doc and under, but maybe Pikachu and under.

Good stuff Eric, you should look for recording stuff for commentary too...

Well, the video part seems easy enough. I simply need one or two different sets of cables, less cables if the TV I get to record on has output for AV cables. And a kind of capturing device, which there are many different types out there. Speaking of which, could you guys check to see if your TVs have output AV cables? I assume the TV will mention next to the AV components if it is either input or output. On Sams TV, he has two slots, so he might have an input and output. The reason is that if it has input and output AV components, it saves me money getting about three y-adapters.

For commentary... I am not sure if the software/hardware I am looking into can record outside audio, but I imagine a simple solution is hook-up the compute for capturing video, then make an additional set-up for caputuring outside audio. After that combine both the video and outside audio into a single video. Anyway, I am looking into that as well.

I can put those gaming night giftcards to some use. Getting my needed cables.

As far as commentary/recording, I have a Dazzle if that helps...I REALLY want to do some commentary, and I have 15 Best Buy bucks (you mad).

Quaz: I deal with these types all the time. "Why play a good character if I'm just going to lose anyways?" They don't want to get better, so they're a lost cause as far as recruiting goes. I guess you can use them to get better with your tertiary characters or something.

^Well, since you already have the dazzle, see if you can get this guide to work. I should be recieveing the male to male composite av cable by next week sometime in the mail. As long as your TV has an input AV section (for the gamecube), and output section (the feed should be channeled through here into the dazzle).

I really think commentary can fall back to a plan of recording audio from a mic on the computer while simaltaneously recording the feed. Then eventually merge the two together. It might end up resulting in no audio for the melee match, but burn that bridge once you get there.

We were talking about our weekly Smashfests Thursday nights, but if there's enough interest I can hold fun side events at subsequent tournaments I run.

So, Union South opens this week, and I'm a catering supervisor there, so I have to work a lot this week and can't hold Smash in my room Monday or Wednesday. :(

I can play tomorrow (Sunday) if anyone wants, though, so text me or whatever.

I got a gamebridge for recording, but no reliable laptop. It used to work just fine, but Vista has had enough of that, so if someone else has a functional laptop, we could use that.

What OS are you running? The gamebridge software is pretty awful, I only know it works well for XP, but I'm guessing Win 7 would work fine. Once we get everything recorded, I could move it over 3 gig at a time or so unless you want to edit / upload.

It runs Windows 7 but I don't have the most hard drive space in the world.

Is there an external we can hook up to save time on transferring and allowing much more recording space?

i might have a hard drive lying around, would have to look for it though. that is if i can even make this... i have a big project due on sunday and another one a few days after.

As long as we just record bracket matches, it should be around 10 GB of footage or so, which isn't that bad. I usually just leave mine on all day, and its around 15 gig at the end of the day.

I agree with Eric.

The Fox part might be the best thing ever written by a human being, and that's not hyperbole or exaggeration at all.

If I held a tournament with no venue fee, do you think I'd get enough setups? And do you think it would impact attendance positively?

Where can I find information on Wumbo? Is it tomorrow? Also, how much if any time do you anticipate to play friendlies.
