Just did a ton of research on my mother's father's family line. The are immigrants from Poland and they came America in 1906. I really wanna know the genealogy of my last name, but I know nothing about my father's family. I wish the census would hurry up and get released.

Dr. Douglas Hofstadter sent me, my father, and Dr. Wink an email today (Yes, I actually received an email from a person who appeared in a xkcd joke:awesome:)
And he knows NOTHING about grammar, but he thinks he does; it was kind of a surprise.
I sent him back an email that showed him where he was wrong. Dr. Wink backed me up too :bee:

I recorded some goood stuff today. Encoding right now.

If hbox/plup beat jman/hax, we will finally see the showdown. s2j/lovage are waiting in losers.

Strange that a fox and falcon who are friends and teammates are the best on both coasts, not counting the big 5. And it's unclear who's better across any given combination of the four...

We just slept 16 hours :D Everyone was so tired yesterday holy balls. I forfeited my pool, DJ forfeited the tourney, and I saw some of the worst play out of the best players. Bracket woulda been a disaster zone if they had continued with it last night.

There are actually two Alice in Wonderland movies everyone. One in the 1950's, one in 2010 both by Disney both called the same thing. One is good One is super weird.

Welp are we just cartoon disney or ALL of disney sans Pixar

1. Mulan
2. The Lion King
3. Aladdin
4. Bedknobs and Broomsticks
5. Beauty and the Beast
6. Anastasia
7. Tron
8. The Emperor's new Groove
9. Fantasia
10. Aristocats

This is the only CORRECT list of Best disney films (though Mulan being one instead of a little lower might just be personal preference).

Disney movies stink. They're only good if your significant other enjoys them.

Arby, let's catchup on Penquindrum and Chiharafuru Monday. And Fate/Zero if you hadn't finished it by then. Gotta get it in before school starts.

Good lord this tourney sickens me. Like gut punch, end-of-evangelion style. This isn't the way it was supposed to be!

Almost everyone played like trash. The hype just wasn't there, nor were the high quality matches. I think the community just wants to forget it ever happened, save a few exceptions. What PP just said is true. Apex is like a book. Once you pick it up, you gotta finish it. No matter how bad it gets.

Tell that to m2k. I don't think he likes to finish books. LOL

The Apex results all make sense to me... except for Javi which was a complete and total surprise. I love all the foreign competition too. Why was there no hype? I haven't watched any matches yet, so I'll be able to better interpret the atmosphere of the tourny once I'm done.

Mad props to Armada, because I knew he was going to pretty much destroy everyone.

Look at that bracket and tell me something wasn't wrong. The upsets stopped being hype pretty early on because everyone was so off their game. I don't know why, but this was an especially tiring weekend in general. The community's been to enough sleepless tourneys, but there was just no energy this time. Thus, bad play and a mood of acceptance and dejection after every set.

49th - Linguini, PC, Colbol
33rd - Axe, Kage, Ice, Amsah
25th - Jman
17th - S2J, M2k

Just examples. The entire bracket is rampant with ugly results, culminating in Puff Y. Link finals.

This was surely the biggest collection of talent in Melee history, and it was also the biggest disappointment. I don't even think I improved any. There was nothing inspiring to improve with.

Nobody wants to see HBox in any kind of finals most of the time, but it's just something melee players have to accept... He's too good of a player. Although, I didn't expect him to lose to Mango.

Armada is the only consistent best player right now He has good plans to beat pretty much everyone under most circumstances. Mango isn't near as invincible as he once was. He's probably the second best player, but is still somewhat unstable whether he is playing well, drunk, or "not trying". DrPP losing to Armada isn't a shocker, but him losing to Javi is a definite surprise. I REALLY didn't think Javi was going to be this good. Still PP ranked really high, although maybe Javi could have stolen a higher position from him. I need to see more videos of Javi to see just how good he really is.

The upsetting:
M2K losing to Hax was surprising
Axe lost to Stric9 (I think) which was pretty disappointing
Amsah losing MacD makes me a little sad, but him losing to Jman isn't crazy

The not-so-upsetting
I think you overrate S2J slightly... his position isn't a shocker to me.
Jman lost out to Javi... but apparently Javi's really good *shrugs*
Linguini and PC really aren't as good as most of these good players to me
Colbol can beat just about anyone, but he's really inconsistent, so no surprise here
I've seen Kage take 1st at a big tournament and the next time play terrible a lot so no surprise here
I didn't really know what to think about Ice or how he would do in America, so no comment really

Still, I want to watch all the videos to get a better opinion. All I'm looking at is results right now.

Javi and mango had an exhibition match. Even playing as bad as he was mango won. Javi's weird playstyle threw a lot of players off while playing him. The first match was close of the mango match because of that. The second one was destruction by Mango.

The hax wasn't a ragequit. M2k stated before hand that depending on the player he would face next he just wouldn't play in loser's (he had brawl to do). M2k didn't want to play the way he would have to to win against hax. Too much gay. He had also lost his controller at some point during the weekend so he was playing much worse on sunday than he was on friday.

Ice is good. Real good. Like AWESOME good. So is amsah. Amsah only lost to macd because of the 3 stitch faces that MacD pulled off in 3rd match. Just how Armada beat Vanz actually. Don't know how Ice lost, just playing bad on sunday I guess. Like most of the smashers.

It isn't that Hbox was in finals, but that he got there beating KK, who had beaten him earlier when playing better (losers set was sloppy and stupid), Javi (of course), and Mango (. . .). So basically, a bracket full of bad, extremely anti-hype matches (*of which Hbox's sets are an example for how they played out, not his style) leads to an admittedly boring finals. All kinds of disappointment.

Mango isn't unstable. He hasn't even gotten drunk at tourneys since well before Genesis 2. He just had a bad day, like nearly everyone else. I saw most of the exciting matchups in pools and bracket, and they were sloppy as all hell. Lots of good players said lots of interesting things before and after the sets in low voices... results don't tell the true story. Apex needs a Behind the Music episode ;)

PP was off... like everyone else. Part of it is him working things out right now in terms of his playstyle. I mean, he backed off on concrete goals of straight winning the tourney a month or so ago, if that's an indication. But he was also just not playing hot. As it is, Javi is ridiculous amazing against Falco (like Ice is) because his twin plays the character. His win isn't so much of an upset as it is saddening. There was no way he was beating Hbox in that next set, and it also killed the much-anticipated PP Hbox, PP Mango, and possibly PP Armada rematches.

Javi's really really good, but he rode to his placing on the poor performance of better smashers. Lovage beat him in winners when he was playing better (still not that great), but lost in losers. He came over and played friendlies on my setup shortly after, and I gotta say... his tech skill was looking like G. Vice's fox. Javi is good enough that a top 10-20 player can't afford to be off like that. I'm sure he'd place in the top 20 of nationals consistently, but that good? No way. It's Kage or Taj all over again. They had a great day and are good enough players for that to take them really far... once.

Axe is so freaking good, but he just choked away the tourney. It's not like he has a big consistency problem either, especially for being so technical rushdown. Nor do most of these players. This is the most ridiculous bracket of all time, but it simply featured the worst collective bracket performance of probably any national ever.

Amsah said he wants to forget this tournament as soon as possible. Pretty sure most people agree.

I don't overrate s2j at all. He's top 10 in the world, no question. Usually pretty consistent too, even when he's not playing too hot. But this weekend, he couldn't fastfall, dash, or pivot to save his life. It was a super ugly falcon and didn't look anything like him. I watched him lose to Tope in pools and bracket. First time, he was disappointed but still emotionally involved in his loss. Second time, there was a definite sense of acceptance. Like, he knew he was playing bad and wasn't going to win. One of those experiences you just try to move past. Too bad this was the biggest tourney ever... everyone wants to get over that fact for the sake of their sanity. Vts said PP posted "Oh well...." on Facebook. That's basically all you can say.

Jman lost to Chillin first round, which created that broken section of early losers bracket that had Jman, Amsah, Hax, M2k, PC, and C@ctus. PC is still really good by the way. He deserved a way better placing than that.

Kage hasn't placed outside 17th since like RoM 1. It was just surprising. Linguini too.

Ice *****. He wasn't playing too poorly, he just choked hardcore. The final game against HBK was nothing like what I saw out of him at other times in the tourney and during friendlies. Definitely top 10 or 15 at worst in the world. Probably better. Something to consider is that he is terrible against Marth. Lost to Hack in Marth dittos at Beast 2, which put him in losers super early to run through every good European player straight to grand finals. Lost to Niko in second round pools at Apex, almost causing him not to make it out. Lost to Hbk in losers. What a coincidence! Otherwise, he's only lost to Amsah, Armada, Mango (in winners), and Chu (in pools) in recent memory. Ice Climbers inexperience is understandable though.

From what I heard, m2k didn't play hax because losing to wobbles made him rage quit the tourney.
What's worse, if he hadn't given up results would have almost looked normal. At least the top 5. He would have beaten SFAT, MacD, and Javi, then lost to PP and gotten PP ready for Hbox. Who PP would have beaten if only because he knows the guy so well at this point. Then we would have had PP Mango losers finals for hype (which was sorely needed), then probably Mango (now warm from spacies matches) vs Armada for grand finals. An acceptable ending to an otherwise disappointing tourney. But no. We are left with nothing but choking dust and a damaged game.

tl;dr you had to be there

Oh yeah, Japan ****** Brawl is hilarious. Although the kid who was supposed to be grounded for watching porn got third. Go team, go! They said they're not coming back because of the Metaknight ban either LOL. He's not even their best character. This tourney also sucked a lot for M2k. Oh well.....

Wow guys, john more for them. ;)

Did ace do the interview for the smash film?

The stream was really fun to watch, but when they put round 1 pools on I was about to kill myself. I also refused to watch grand finals so as of now I don't know who won. It doesn't really matter.

I see you finished Fate/Zero, Yoshi. How 'bout that
Nobel Phantasm?
Rider is amazing and saber got scrapped.

Btw, what do you guys think will be good out of this anime season? winter 2011-12?

No johns is about keeping a positive mindset for improvement and acceptance of what happens, and not bringing others down with you. However, johns can be perfectly legitimate excuses all the same. A wonky tourney like this needs some explaining, needs some johns. The community also needs to be able to move past it when the next national rolls around (Northwest Manifest? Zenith?).

Ace didn't go.

Armada was up 2-0 first set when we walked out. Hbox won anyway, but Armada took the second set 3-0. He's got the title until Zenith for sure. Unless he gets dominated, he'll at least be tied for 1st or top 3. Who knows what PP will do in the next 8 months. Or if Armada will even come to us anymore.

I think Peepee could've beaten Armada.
We didn't even know they'd played until they announced Mango Armada for winners finals. It wasn't on the stream or ever announced to my knowledge. So I have no idea how it went.

Reserving top 8 (which includes best 2 of 3 sets) for hours for the stream is a bad idea, much less the initial plan of reserving it for another day entirely. Smash doesn't work like Street Fighter!

I can't explain the lack of hype during the sets themselves though. Melee didn't have any energy this time, players or spectators. Couple of exceptions though, watch out for those (Hax SFAT, KDJ Javi, Javi in general, KK Hbox on shakycam because recording was uncoordinated at the TO desk).

Arby, when are you free for anime and fewd tomorrow?

I also started Nisemonogatari. Funny how it obviously has much higher budget yet Shinbo's still rockin that power point. Gotta hand it to him.

LOL here come the johns from EVERYONE
I played terribly, probably should have made it to round 2 but that's my fault and I'll get better and do better next time
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcRmbBjLvdk#t=30s

PP vs. Armada was streamed/projected btw.
God, there's gotta be johns to explain this ****. Apex fell out of the twilight zone or something.

Oh cool, I must have been sleeping. Why the hell was this tourney so tiring? Did they disseminate Nyquil in the air??

Nah me too... it was really bad this time. Coulda been a combination of complete lack of sleep night 1 + everyone playing like **** most of the weekend lol. I barely played friendlies.
yeeeep

Adam and I are probably staying up all night because he's leaving tomorrow afternoon and I have a ton of matches to upload asap. That means no anime, but we could go for a meal whenever you want. I'll let you know as soon as I'm free this week though.
