Edward Richtofen, Nazi scientist and zombie slayer. First appearing in Call of Duty: World at War in it's extremely popular Zombies mode in the map Shi no Numa, he is the leader of Gtoup 935, a group of scientists that studied a fragment of a meteor called Element 115. The element brought the dead to life, turning them violent and unpredictable. Richtofen wished to control them and use them against the Allies during WW2. He was slowly driven insane by close proximity to 115, and he kidnapped Japanese soldier Takeo Maskai, American soldier Tank Dempsey, and Russian commander Nikolai Belinski. The zombies eventually got loose, and Richtofen decided to hunt them down and stop his greatest enemy and mentor, Ludwig Maxis, from controlling them, all the while dragging the three amnisiac soldiers along for the ride. He eventually dethroned Samantha Maxi, daughter of Ludwig, and controlled the zombies during Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
CoD sucks. Why should it get a character over other more deserving third parties?
First off, the beginning of this is completely opinionated, and I don't see CoD fans making fun of Nintendo. But the reason it should get a character is because it has invested time into making sure every CoD installment since Call of Duty 3 is on a Nintendo platform, even though they know the games aren't popular on Nintendo platforms. This proves they have more dedication to Nintendo than even Hideo Kojima, who goes out of his way to keep Metal Gear Solid games off Nintendo platforms and even ridiculing Nintendo, only to beg for Solid Snake to get in Smash, and it only happened because Sakurai and him are "friends".
Call of Duty isn't popular in Japan.
Earthbound and Fire Emblem aren't even popular outside of Japan, other than their dedicated following, which CoD certainly has in Japan.
Zombies has only been in Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2 on Nintendo consoles.
Yes, but both games are Richtofen's biggest appearances. So I think that's fine.
CoD is too violent.
Thank you for bringing that up, I wanted to talk about Metal Gear more. Metal Gear has some pretty gruesome shiznit, ironically enough on the two Metal Gear Solid games on Nintendo platforms. If Snake can go nonlethal, so can Richtofen.
We done here? All right, thanks.
Moveset
Richtofen's moveset doesn't use real guns, because of Sakuai's rule against them. So instead, we'll use Wonder Weapons and the knife.
B: Ray Gun
The most iconic weapon in all of Call of Duty, and maybe even shooting games, the Ray Gun shoots green balls of energy. There are twenty rounds of clip in the source, but this version only holds ten at a time. Each ball does 1-2% damage.
Side B: Winter's Howl
The Winter's Howl freezes zombies right quick, which it does here. It deals 6% damage, and encases enemies in ice attached to the ground.
Up B: Paralyzer
This weapon is not utilized as a weapon, but as a boost in recovery. Richtofen points the gun under him and shoots it, erupting a gust of wind, even on the ground.
Down B: Wunderwaffe DG-2
Emitting a bolt of electricity, it can chain characters, items, and stage elements up to four at a time. Deals about 14% on contact, 1% more for every chain.
Final Smash: Pack-A-Punch
The action on the stage stops, and Richtofen puts one of his guns in the PaP, the Ray Gun if no direction is pressed, Paralyzer if the stick is pressed up, Wunderwaffe if the stick points down, and the Winter's Howl if it's even vaguely presse to the right or left. The weapon doubles in effectiveness for 20 seconds.
