Zair from ledge: driving me NUTS

What are the inputs/timing to get this to work right?

As far as I can tell, while she's hanging from the ledge (let's assume she's on the left ledge so she's facing right), the input sequence is:

Left->Jump->Right->Zair

For the timing, I've tried almost everything. I've had most success with rolling the buttons from Left to jump to Right and then delaying the Zair for half a second before pressing it.

When I try to do this, I can ALMOST get it come out like in the video. When it actually does come out though, usually it's just for a split second and doesn't extend the whole way until cancelled. That's assuming she doesn't just grab the ****ed ledge again.

Bah. I figured it out. It's stage-dependent.

Some stages don't have a lip you can get caught under like final destination. On those stages, simply tapping left and then smashing right + zair in quick succession (even as fast as you can do it) works for me.

On final destination (maybe other stages with similar lips), when I try to do that she either a) catches the ledge with the zair leaving us at square 1 or b) double jumps into the lip, kicks off the wall, then goes right back to hanging on the edge. To get around this, I simply roll (assuming I'm on leftmost ledge facing right) left to jump, wait a second for her to make it past bottom of lip, then hold right and time the zair JUST as her upper half is over the stage. By holding right she'll automatically make the jump back onto the stage. Timing seems to be everything because too soon and she'll grab the ledge, too late and she'll either cancel it before it extends or not do it at all.

Sorry if I wasted somebody's time, but I figured maybe I can help someone else that's having a problem with it as well.

This was driving me crazy too. I just ledge stalled by using the grapple beam 3 times in the air to remove it's tethering properties. Once that was done, I could use zair from the ledge instantly.

I still prefer the drop down wall jump into dj then bair. It has a little less range but way more damage and ko properties.

How often does that actually even work for you. Seems like a recipe for getting usmashed or fsmashed. I could see that working sometimes but you get ko'd easily by any Snake/MK/Bowser that even half knows what they are doing. It's also pretty stage dependant. Yoshi's Island/Battlefield yea. FD/Smashville it's a lot harder to do.

Most people should have more than enough time to roll away or shield it.

I still can't do ledge hopped attacks like in videos I see of better players :( I do a pathetic fair or nair that barely lasts to be useful, but I definitely cannot pull off a zair.

Yes I tried it on stages with "lips" like FD. Any tips >_>?

This took me forever, but it kinda seems like you guys are doing it differently that me.

When I'd go to do a normal fair, nair, or upair from the ledge, I'd do it almost immediately. So when I tried this with grapple, I was so irritated with the timing that I could not do it. But I figured, ah well, I'll try again. All I did was give it a LITTLE extra time. For me it's just the same on Smashville as it is on FD, except sometimes I'll get caught in that crappy lip. All I do is:

Ledge>Down>X or Y> (little bit of time, or else you'll just grapple the stage) Zair

Simple as that. Hope it helps.

Try doing this. On stages like Battlefield and Smashville where there is no lip on the edge, just drop from the ledge and press X and Z simultaneously. Somehow this cheats the binding properties. I found it just now.. apologies if it's common knowledge.

EDIT: Nevermind.. I figured it out. Stages like Battlefield and Smashville have a slope towards the middle of the course. When you drop down while DIing towards the course Samus is technically horizontally past the ledge, making her grapple act as the Zair. Combining this with a simultaneous jump, Samus's Zair goes upwards through the stage to the opponent's waist-level. Just try it out and you'll see what I mean.

it has a hitbox you Can Zair if you jump opposite of the stage and still hit you opponent instead of the edge
