Is spamming Z to L-Cancel a bad habit? I can L-Cancel using L or R but it seems easier with Z. Should I stop this from being a habit and focus on using L or R?

Z Spam L-Canceling

I think that spamming z like that is a bad habit to have. I don't know how exactly it influences tech, but I just don't think that's efficient

Well I think I can stop the spamming problem but is Z still viable for aerials and L-canceling without the spam?

I'd imagine that using Z would be okay. I'm not sure about characters with tethers though, I'd check that out.

Z is perfectly fine to use. Just don't spam lol. If you L cancel an aerial with Z as Sheik, don't worry about the tether thing. It can't come out until the aerial is done.

I was on HungryBox's stream the other day and I asked him how he used his controller as far as L or R for lag cancelling and if he truly used Z for aerials which is something I've heard from other people. He responded with that he mashes Z for aerials and he will Z-cancel when landing.
I main Puff and I found it super insightful but Puff is a more floaty character and it kinda makes sense due to how many aerials you need to throw out in the air. Being able to cancel your landing lag consistently and staying offensive with it seems super intuitive.
At the end of the day you need to stick to what you're comfortable with. Get your hands on the 20XX hackpack and try R-cancelling/Lcancelling/and Zcancelling. Try to cancel landing lag with each of these inputs 20-50 times in a row. It should be apparent/obvious as to what truly feels natural to you. Once you narrow it down to that input, stick with it. Changing inputs too often really slows down your improvement in L/R/Z cancelling consistently. Muscle memory is key.
I main Puff and I mash Z for cancelling that landing lag due to the fact that I can set up a DAIR with Z, cancel the lag with a Z cancel, and then use Z again for the grab --> upthrow --> rest setup. All one button. It works for me at the moment and I plan on sticking with it.

Spamming doesn't really work because you'd have to spam very fast to cover all the frames since 1 press only covers 7 iirc. However there's nothing wrong in for example light pressing l and then pressing z quickly afterwards to enlonger the l-cancel window, particularly for moves that cause various amounts of hitlag like fox drill. Also z is better than hard pressing r/l.

L/R is objectively better because you can light press them, and lightpressing them causes them to not be read as tech inputs, and that means that if you get hit out of an L-cancel you can still tech the hit and not have to worry about the timer.

Doofus please, you can't tech with Z. Mashing Z for l canceling is objectively the best, conversation over no more misinformation lads.
And to that other guy talking about z being bad for sheik because it makes the tether come out.... I just can't deal with you mate. go home youre done for today
