How many people have played the YS games? I'm still not sure what to think about them. I played through 1 and am in the middle of 2 now, I like 2 better than 1. They're enjoyable but it seems like something's missing

I haven't played the first two. Going through Ys IV/Celceta right now. I think the games are fun. I do like a little more balance in story and gameplay though, so Trails catches my interest more than Ys.

I beat I & II on Nightmare first run...first was DEFINITELY the hardest cause you gotta approach. In two you basically play bullet storm. But yeah, really fun games, I'm waiting for the later two games to go on sale on Steam.

yeah 2's dungeons also seem a lot less tedious so far. damn, I didn't even know about Trails
The gameplay is instead turnbased for Trails, but with its own quirks. The game's fun and made by Falcom as well. There's a lot of unreleased games because of the amount of text, but the 2nd game is still being translated. The first game and eventually the second will be out on Steam later this year, so I suggest people to give it a shot.

Ys was one of those series that I always wanted to try but never got around to, mostly because all the games come out on obscure platforms, are Japanese exclusive, or are rare.

One day when I have the time I'll probably end up emulating one of them to give it a go.
