With every Smash Bros. since Melee, the Smash Speculation scene has almost come and gone three times. For most, this is an exciting time, with highs and lows coming day by day. For the Super Smash Bros. 4 speculation scene, these highs and lows came daily by the means of a daily update by the game's creator, Masahiro Sakurai. We've argued, laughed, and maybe cried along the way, and like everything, it must end.
At the end of this week, Super Smash Bros. 4 for 3DS will release in Japan, ending the speculation scene. People have argued that it will really end at the Wii U release, but I believe that the 'core' of the game will be known, ending the speculation that mattered to us for the past few years.
My journey here started with a simple Google search; Professor Layton for Smash Brothers. The Professor Layton series is a favorite of mine, so the potential of seeing the main protagonist as a fighter is another of my favorite game series excited me. I glanced at a few of the links, deciding on 'Smashboards'.
The date was October 2nd. Greatly impressed by the work there by @Kikwi-Kiwi , I would come back the next day and join just to add my name to the support list.
Little did I know that two years latter, on October 3rd 2014, Super Smash Bros. for 3DS would release in the US.
Over 2012 and the first half of 2013, I would visit the site, debating and hyping myself for the eventual release of the game in 2014. When E3 2013 showed us our first look at the game, we grew excited. New characters, game physics, and the chance at learning a whole new way of competitive Smash excited me the most.
It's said that the end of something is better than the beginning.. and I must agree. Over the years, I've become a part of the experience, making it 'my game', as I observed, wrote, and thought about SSB4. It's a bittersweet feeling seeing it all go, but this just means that the real thing, the full game, will be 'that' more enjoyable.
Now to the point - So how about you? What's your story here? What have you thought about your experience in the speculation scene? Feel free to share here.
Keep on Smashing... and [Get Ready]!!!
