With every Smash Bros. since Melee, the Smash Speculation scene has almost come and gone three times. For most, this is an exciting time, with highs and lows coming day by day. For the Super Smash Bros. 4 speculation scene, these highs and lows came daily by the means of a daily update by the game's creator, Masahiro Sakurai. We've argued, laughed, and maybe cried along the way, and like everything, it must end.

At the end of this week, Super Smash Bros. 4 for 3DS will release in Japan, ending the speculation scene. People have argued that it will really end at the Wii U release, but I believe that the 'core' of the game will be known, ending the speculation that mattered to us for the past few years.

My journey here started with a simple Google search; Professor Layton for Smash Brothers. The Professor Layton series is a favorite of mine, so the potential of seeing the main protagonist as a fighter is another of my favorite game series excited me. I glanced at a few of the links, deciding on 'Smashboards'.

The date was October 2nd. Greatly impressed by the work there by @Kikwi-Kiwi , I would come back the next day and join just to add my name to the support list.

Little did I know that two years latter, on October 3rd 2014, Super Smash Bros. for 3DS would release in the US.

Over 2012 and the first half of 2013, I would visit the site, debating and hyping myself for the eventual release of the game in 2014. When E3 2013 showed us our first look at the game, we grew excited. New characters, game physics, and the chance at learning a whole new way of competitive Smash excited me the most.

It's said that the end of something is better than the beginning.. and I must agree. Over the years, I've become a part of the experience, making it 'my game', as I observed, wrote, and thought about SSB4. It's a bittersweet feeling seeing it all go, but this just means that the real thing, the full game, will be 'that' more enjoyable.

Now to the point - So how about you? What's your story here? What have you thought about your experience in the speculation scene? Feel free to share here.

Keep on Smashing... and [Get Ready]!!!

I was looking for something to pass the time because I'm bored out of my mind. Might be the first forum I stick with after the game actually comes out.

For waiting this game 2 and half years, the game was like a huge mystery, now it all comes down to the Japanese release. Fors years Smash Bros spark up my life for nearly a decade. Now it is time to get the newest Smash Bros game.

I was looking up various smash rumors and discovered this site and ssb4dojo. What made me join the site is I wanted to talk about my thoughts on Mewtwo joining and to sign up to be a K Rool supporter.

I saw this place being mentioned on NeoGAF and since I am not a big of fan of the Smash community there, I registered here (mainly to post in Ridley's thread, but in the end I have been posting everywhere and a lot since then). No regrets so far.

As for speculating, it was fun for a while, but I think it overstayed its welcome months ago. I can't wait for the games to be out so the speculation can finally end and so people will focus on other aspects of the game (like complaining about what the games lacks, etc xD).

Got bored last December, decided to registser in case I wanted to discuss PM things (since 3.0 was releasing). Joined, discussed PM for a while, got distracted by Smash4 discussions instead.

Speculation is always fun, but as a fan of information, I'm looking forward to release so I can stop debating with my brother whether or not Ridley WILL be playable, and return to whether or not he SHOULD be playable.

To be honest I found this place when I was watching GameXplain on youtube. I loved having hype for the first time in a long time. The speculations have kept me busy for a long time. Now it comes down to Japanese release.

I've been following Smashboards since before Brawl (wow) but I never made an account until earlier this year right before E3. It's been a blast speculating with you guys. I still can't believe Robin made it in. It sounds cheesy, but I'll cherish that memory forever. Can't wait to uncover the rest of the surprises with you guys over this next month.

A couple weeks ago I realized that I was spending the majority of my internet time discussing Smash Bros on forums for Fire Emblem, Kingdom Hearts, etc. so I might as well sign up for an actual SSB forum and maybe have a little bit faster, more consistent conversation there. Turns out pretty much every other site I was on was basically just having briefer, less focused versions of the same speculation conversations that were going on here. So I'm glad I joined (and right before the CSS leak, which was perfect timing).

Speculation really is a spectator sport here. I see people supporting characters from games they've never even played with all the fervor and enthusiasm of a major-league sports fan. It's pretty amusing, and always a fun time.

I've known about Smash Boards for years now, and I've mostly kept up with the speculation scene by lurking since before Brawl, so I can't really speak to how/when I started seriously speculating about SSB. All I remember is that the first time I saw the Brawl Dojo was when Ike got announced. Ike is the protagonist of my all-time favorite game (FE9), so at that point Sakurai had me pretty well hooked into keeping up with the website.

Great story!

I've always been a Smash fan. The game series that brought me the most hype ever. I owned and played Smash 64, Melee and Brawl with my two big brothers. And though they're now studying, we're still huge Smash fans. I signed up to Smash Boards a few years ago, but didn't really use it. It wasn't before this year (I think) that I really got into leaks, theories and speculation from other people on the internet. My excitement grew sky-high, and since then, I've been an active member on Smash Boards, reading people's thoughts and opinions with great joy, looking at convincing leaks while seing others trying to debunk it. It's amazingly fun, and being able to be a part of that is just fantastic. It's always sad when we get to the point where the speculation will end and we get our answers, but we must not forget that it's NOW it really begins! :D
