From my very first locals also came my very first money match, though it was only a $1 money match, thankfully. I played my Falco vs. my opponent's Ice Climbers, and I lost 0-3. I just don't have any experience towards Ice Climbers, but that's not what were discussing. I think after that experience (a salty experience to be more specific), I want to know your opinion on money matches, since my locals tends to have a few of them every week they're active.

Do you think they're a stupid gamble? Do you find it relatively entertaining? Do you think it's a form of disrespect to the loser? I don't know, any question you can think of, I'm just asking what do you think of them.

Where your tournament advancement isn't on the line, MMs are great for upping the stakes so the players have more pressure to play well. That said, if you play well without the money, it can feel like a waste lol (I don't mm).

MM if you need experience vs someone or their character when they're playing try hard or if pride is on the line.

Otherwise play friendlies

Yeah that's what I did vs. Ice Climbers. I got a little experience out of it, though kind of hard to stay in the air all the time.

Money matches are often the only way to get a serious set in with a good player. They're great for working on a specific matchup or just adding to your experience in playing your hardest in a tournament-like atmosphere. It can also be quite lucrative if people don't know you :denzel: They should be encouraged more.

Back in the day, MM's for under $5 were fairly rare. And they were more hype. They should bring back the salty suite harder and actually promote the rivalries. As wack as chillin's rap vid was, that made that set SO hype. It brought tons of views. Stuff like that is good for melee.

Money Matching is awesome and hype. Also the best way to get an actual set vs a good player. I love money matching.

just play friendlies. MM'ing, especially against top players, can result in you losing money that could've been used much more wisely.

Money matching means different things to different people. In SoCal, it can sometimes be the only way for some skilled players to make money off the game because big tournaments are always monstrously stacked. For others, it's just really good practice for recreating the tension you'd feel in a tournament match by putting something on the line. If you don't really see the benefit in moneymatching, you don't have to.

I'm going to sound greedy as hell, but I love it when inexperienced people money match me to learn and improve. I can easily turn that money right back around on people with a higher skill level than me. It's a really great "food chain-like" system with the flaw of only the best getting loot.
