Im a beginner player and have been trying to learn how to use Yoshi, never been to any tournaments before and probably never will be now that brawl is coming fast. My question involves a set of moves that I have been using on my siblings and computer players and seems to work quite well. I simply find a way to get my opponent airborne and stay below them egg bombing them to keep them in the air, when the get near the ground ill usually use an upward smash or up A to send them back up. In a match with a professional is this useful or should I ditch practicing it and work on something else?
Thanks for the advice.

Against a professional player, the strategy is useful but far from perfect. You would need to learn when to use it and how to use it against someone who knows how to dodge eggs.

If you're serious about improving then you will need to learn the advanced techniques. That's not to say that some good egg juggles are not a great way to do damage to your opponent, but if you rely on it too much you will get punished.

Hope that helps.

I'd say that the overall most helpful advanced technique of all time is L-cancelling. Then I'd say check out Double Jump Canceling and Reverse Double Jump Cancelling (DJC and RDJC for short), if you want something a little more Yoshi specific. Wavedashing has its uses, and if you aren't planning on hanging out with any pro's you might find it's just fun to show some of your friends who don't know of the advanced techniques (aka, the wavedash is the flashiest of the advanced techniques, IMO, though that's not to say the others aren't flashy)

There are plenty of guides you can find (even some in the Yoshi forums) that will teach you how to do these things :O Good luck! :D

Most flashy Yoshi techniques:

- Egg roll off the edge
- Edge eggs
- Infinite ledge stall with down B
- Platform dashing
and my favourite at the moment,
- Continuous reverse platform dashing

To do the last one, simply stand on a platform and run off the edge. Then, RDJ and platform dash perfectly horizontally. If you hold the direction you will walk off the next edge and then you can repeat in the reverse direction. The perfect horizontal wavedash is necessary on DL64 platforms, but this looks incredibly flashy and is much more difficult on Pokemon Stadium with the tree morph, and you are doing it on the small stump on top right of the tree.

Of course, this has no actual battle usage but it's awesome to do if you can do it really quickly.
