I was talking to Crimson King about a week ago, and I was saying to him that it would be pretty cool to have a WWYP All-Star round, where only past winners could compete. Of course, the problem with that becomes finding judges, since it would defeat the purpose of having the best duke it out if some had to sit on the sidelines to judge.
Around the same time, I was talking to Virg and he asked me to run the next WWYP, as it has been a long time since he was able to compete in one since he's the most consistent judge by far.
So, it occurred to me: why not kill two birds with one stone?
What I'm proposing isn't a contest, but a collection of short stories by past winners. While I would like that the stories are new, they don't have to be, because the goal of this anthology would be to have a collection of the best work from the best writers on SWF. If you feel like you've already written an outstanding story, who am I to tell you not to submit it?
The time frame for this would be even more liberal than the timeframe for a standard WWYP (lol this will take forever). I'm thinking that we would take the whole summer to do this. That way, we can try and contact every past winner and ask them if they would like to submit something to the anthology. If we can't get a hold of them, then we'll include their winning entry. If they decline, we won't include anything.
This will also give those people (like me) who want to write something entirely new for the anthology enough time to do so, without feeling the pressure of a standard WWYP deadline. With an anthology, it would get all of our winners writing again, and it would let poor Virg write instead of judge for a change.
Good idea? Post some thoughts so we can get this thing rolling.
