Would you say that the Smash 4 community is somewhat independent of the Melee community?

Is the Smash 4 community independent/separate from the Melee community?

The question is pretty simple. MOST popular Smash 4 players never play melee, and many melee players never play Smash 4. So, would you say that the Smash 4 community shouldn't be compared to the Melee community? Why or why not?

The FGC, despite being made up of games that have no relation aside from genre, work fine together, I don't see why games part of the same franchise can't.

Just because they're different doesn't make them completely seperate.

Think of it like this, I offer two kinds of burgers and one has different ingredients than the other. Just because one burger tastes better to one group doesn't change the fact that they're both burgers that have unique tastes.

Well technically yes(imo),

You see while the game is still new the community itself is developing the meta without much help from the community(given that discovering techs from the previous games). And we're kinda doing well.

Love Melee, and honestly without it I wouldn't be playing Smash 4. (This also applies to Smash Bros. 64, or Mario NES for Mario games, Zelda 1 for NES and Zelda games, etc.)

The Melee scene is the hugest Smash competitive scene, and now that we have a newer Smash game, I think it's reasonable to assume that a lot of Melee players are also playing Smash 4 in terms of competitive scene demographic since the competitive side of Smash originated at it's strongest with Melee.

Either way, Smash 4 has a healthy fanbase right now and a influx of players that have probably never played Melee being that it's from 2001. I'd say the Smash community just as a whole keeps playing Smash, it's hard to say really what the numbers really are and it doesn't really matter, really.

I'd say be happy people are playing!

Most people who play smash 4 also play melee and vice versa so I would consider them to be the same community. If they were that separate this wouldn't be the smash boards, but instead the smash 4 boards.

There's a large group, but I wouldn't say most.
