You have two options: You can handpick 3 stages from Smash 64 to be completely remade in HD, or you can have 6 stages return straight from the 64.

I was looking over the assets of Saffron City and noticing all the little background details, and I would love to see it remade. A flock of Pidgey flying through the air from foreground to background with a backdrop of a sprawling 3D city with the massive Pokeball swaying back and forth. It would be gorgeous.

Or Hyrule Castle remade with all of Hyrule Castle Town in the background with just enough detail that you can make out little people moving around. It would be like fighting with a Hyrule themed miniature in the background

No contest, really. Dreamland, Saffron, and Hyrule in glorious HD is much better than back porting 64 graphics onto this 1080p console. If I wanted to look at the pixels, I'd play 64.

To be perfectly honest, I'm only fond of the Zelda, Star Fox, Donkey Kong, and Kirby stages from Super Smash Bros 64.

It'd be much nice to have them in HD format, especially since having several bad stages is considerably worse than having a couple GOOD stages.

The only one I really really want is Dream Land.

However Metal Cavern, Peach's Castle, and Saffron City are all nice as well.

So "HD remakes but less" got my vote.

EDIT - Fixed a part where I said Mushroom Kingdom instead of Peach's Castle.

Amidst the abounding light of heaven!
Battlefield and FD are staples, the testing stages aren't worth keeping, Sector Z is basically Corneria and Zebes is hardly unique enough to return.

The viable stages left are:
-Kongo Jungle
-Dreamland
-Princess Peach's Castle
-Metal Cavern
-Hyrule Castle
-Yoshi's Story
-Mushroom Kingdom
-Safron City

Personally, I dislike Kongo Jungle in terms of gameplay and feel that other Mario retro stages do MK's role just fine.
Dreamland, Yoshi's Story and Metal Cavern are the ones I most want, in that order, but Hyrule Castle, Peach's and Safron City are also good stages.

So, for my final decision, I say do whatever so long as you don't revamp Dreamland's music. Gourmet Race remixes should be kept to their own stages.

Having the original blocky models would look TERRIBLE next to the up-to-date character and item models.

You made me realize I called Peach's Castle Mushroom Kingdom by accident xD.

World of mad, Peach's Castle has the best design of all the 64 stages. I'd take it, Saffron, and Hyrule over pretty much anything else, Dreamland is redundant with Battlefield and possibly FoD, Brinstar > Zebes, and the only thing I miss with Classic Mushroom Kingdom are the pipes.

I thought of Peach's Castle as being "sporadic" in design. The bumper, the triangle shaped blocks in the air, the moving platform underneath the stage...

I just felt as though it was the worst stage, to be honest. No offense.

One positive note I will say is that it has one of the best music tracks in the game.

It would love a HDfied version of Saffron City. Only if they redo the textures, fix the blockiness and add a few more stuff to it to make it look better.

I want HD remakes of these stages. I don't want all of these stages to return; the only ones that I want to return are Hyrule Castle and Dream Land. I would love to see HD re-imaginings of these stages rather than a lazy port since I know the Wii U would bring some life into these stages.
If Mario Kart 8 can have some old courses look absolutely gorgeous, then I think that Smash can bring back old stages and give them an amazing makeover.

My last pick, and one you guys are underrating, is Yoshi's stage. It may not be the best stage but it would look absolutely amazing in HD. Something like this:

The stitched walls in the background, the pop up book textures in the foreground, and the massive and detailed Super Happy Tree swaying in the background.

I'd honestly rather have a few HD remakes. The ones that really stand out to me are:

Hyrule Castle
Metal Cavern
Saffron City

Hyrule Castle, Sector Z and Saffron City are my choices. I'd love to see them in HD. Hyrule Castle could be amazing.

64 stages? That's quite alot don't you think? loljk

I say HD remakes of Sector Z (Takes care of Corneria too, sorta), Hyrule and Dreamland.
I say Dreamland only because it's my favorite stage. In competitive fights it hurts my heart I can't always choose it.

I'm surprised people want more HD stages than ports of old. Especially the fan favorite stages being Hyrule Temple from Melee.

Anyways, we seem to be getting more ports than remakes.

It would be cool for 4 to have a stage from 1,2 and 3.
