Would you pay for an eShop demo?

Just curious. Would people be willing to pay for an unlimited-play eShop demo (so, not one of those with a limit on the times you can run it)? What if doing so would count towards downloading it from the eShop on release?

Pretty sure I would jump all over that, personally, if it were unlimited play and had multiplayer.

For me it really depends on what it was. If it was a demo of Smash run then I would. However if it was just a regular smash match with very few characters then I would just wait.

If it also went into paying for it on release, sure. I'd look at that more as a pre-order to download it with the demo as a bonus. If it were separate from the game itself, though, I would just wait.

Basically my thoughts.

Would it have to have multiplayer for you, or just include Smash Run with some AI players?

Just AI is fine to me. I really doubt that (if there is a demo for the game) it will have multiplier at all. It would be nice if it did have it though. Too bad I can see it being local.

Psssh. I'd never do that. Paying for a demo? Nahhhh...

...

Oh, who am I kidding, it's Smash, give me the e3 demo to download for about £4-5 and I would. Immediately. It'd keep me occupied while waiting for the real thing.

If it was like $5, I'd probably consider it. Hopefully it wouldn't have that "limited plays" crap that litters 3DS demos.

A demo is a demonstration of a product and demonstrations are free so why would it not be free if it was to be payed for call it ssb4 lite or something like that and no i wouldnt buy it unless it was free because whats the point.

Most demos are limited in the number of times you can play them, which for Smash, would be kinda lame. And what if it counted as a sort of down-payment on the final game?

There's no doubt that everyone would play a free demo. I was just seeing if I was the only one who'd be willing to pay for a bit more robust demo, and/or one that would count towards the price of the game later.

I mean, you could just totally shrek your friends that didn't buy the demo when the game comes out.

If it doubled as a sort of pre-order situation like fe_wander suggested, then yes. Otherwise, no.

I would buy it angrily. Tells you how much restraint and hypocrisy I have.

On one condition, some alternate costume DLC that won't be released to non demo buyers for x months that costs the same as the demo comes with it.

This. I bought MGSV: Ground Zeroes at full price, so I don't think I'd have the self-control not to buy a Smash demo despite being against the idea of a paid demo.

Lying about my country.
If whatever I paid was later discounted from the full game, then maybe.

But since that'll never happen, then no ****ing way.

What's the point of a paid demo anyways?

I'd rather pay for it than only get a limited number of times to run the demo, personally. I've sank enough money into the series in the past, I wouldn't mind paying a bit for an early stab at it.

No, I wouldn't. Again, I have no problems waiting until October to play the game.

Considering that it would likely cost around $5-6, include maybe half the roster, and feature a handful of stages with a 20-30 plays limit... I'd rather just keep my money and wait another month or two for the real deal.

If it had at least 4 characters, without question I would.

But they would never release a demo for public download. Some kids would just not buy the game and play the demo for as long as they could. Although, it wouldn't necessarily hurt sales, I just can't imagine Nintendo doing it. That's like releasing a Mario Kart demo.

Yes, but I would feel pretty dirty afterwards.
