Your eyes happened to drift to my location, I see.
this is my story, my wall of text...

i cannot access the internet at home anymore..
i originally had a prefectly fine verizon DSL connection, but my dad (who is truthfully very ignorant) tried to switch over to earthlink.
so the earthlink stuff came along and i folloed the instructions in the pamphlet. the thing is, the internet speed was just as fast as the verizon dsl. this is where i thought, "we're still accessing the internet through verizon." and so i type some stuff in the command prompt and it turns out that i was right. so i inquired whether we switched or not and my dad called earthlink over and over again and explained to several earthlink people what the problem was. the thing is, the representatives did not understand him or the problem. they thought that since they could detect an internet connection, we were connected to earthlink. my dad did not understand the problem either, or at least how to explain it. only i did, but i did not talk to the rep. so he thought that they were right and cancelled the verizon service. for a few days, we could access the internet, but then it just shut down. we really did cancel verizon and had no other connection options. i was right.
WE COULD NOT CALL ANYBODY ON THE TELEPHONE FROM THAT DAY (a few days ago) BECAUSE WE USED THE VERIZON TELEPHONE SERVICE. we have no cell phones. my dad can only call at work now and since he does not know anything about networking (or computers for that matter) it is incredibly hard to get an ISP working for our location (we live in a dead end in a suburban area in New York). another thing is that his workplace only allows employees in so i cannot talk to the reps. i am currently typing this at the library and you must remember that we do not own any cell phones. earthlink was an abysmal failure and the ironic thing is we were never able to access their internet DSL service. i want to be able to access the internet... it's so hard to type on QWERTY.

You don't normally type with QWERTY?

Yea, Earthlink sucks horribly. We tried it for a while when I was trying to get out of AOL and they are marginally worse (this is in the days of dial-up). My dad got use AT&T (then Bellsouth) in like 2000 making us the first in my town to have DSL. Haven't had a single complaint since. I've used cable and I wasn't too pleased with it overall.

Best of luck. I advise going to Radio shack and getting a Virgin Mobile phone. I had to use it for reasons that need not be disclosed, but for about $30 it lasted me a month (at about 10 minutes a day + many, MANY text messages). You can either pay as you go, monthly, whatever you do, it's the best option out there and the service fee is VERY cheap per day. Get one of those, and call Earthlink.

You don't type with QWERTY? I've been typing with that ever since I was born! Anyways, Road Runenr High Speed Internet is very good! But I think That's only for Hawaii. How are you in the library at such a late time?
