Would it be worth it?

I consider myself a casual player in melee. I know a few techniques like wavedashing and sffling and can use them fairly well in gameplay. I have recently started to take the game a little more seriously by mastering some techniques, and hope to be an "Okay" player in the tournament level.

However, with brawl approaching in the next few months my questions are....

Would it be worth it, for players like me, to continue mastering these techniques even if they aren't in Brawl? Should I just not even play Melee?

If I were to implement something such as wavedashing into my gameplay, would it damage my ability to play brawl?

IT IS INDEED WORTH IT.

I only started playing advanced 5 months ago. My first ever tourney was in SEPTEMBER of 2007!

Tournaments are SO much fun and by the end of it you'll feel as if you got alot better, and you WILL get alot better. It's definately worth it.

And no, learning ADV stuff won't damage your Brawl gameplay. Brawl is a new game, and we're going to be starting from scratch. From what I've read, not many Adv Techs are transfering over.

I thought about this, too, but if we just put down our controllers till Brawl shows up, we'll certainly get rusty. If you really enjoy the game, why quit it now?

After that, THE GAME WILL BE WORTH IT, I mean, if you liked Melee, you CAN and WILL like Brawl, IT WILL BE WORTH IT. IT WILL BE MONTHS, EVEN YEARS OF FUN, ok, good enoguh of Caps, and with online, good single player mode, those 50 bucks are more than worth it.

But its ok, you can have bad expectatives, when you see it, you will be more surprised than the ones that think that brawl will be cool.

you talk about playing melee like you're training for a new job or something. if you have fun playing the game then play it. if you're trying to "learn" melee JUST so you'll be pro at brawl you're probably wasting your time.

I think you misunderstood my question.

I know brawl is going to be worth it!!! I just asked would it be worth it to still play MELEE now and to start mastering melee's adv. techniques.

As long as you don't become completly dependent on wavedashing to the point where you forget how to run, I'm sure you'll be fine. You can still shffl to my knowledge so that shouldn't hold a problem.

Oh, ok, Im such a jerk :p, I dont see why you shouldnt play melee, but Im not sure, you have played it lots, so I dont really see some real reason. However, If you are tech dependant, you should stick to melee, but if you just play for fun, Stick to brawl

You should learn them, because you'll probably go back to Melee, and maybe SSB64, since you sound like one of us "true smashers". (aka people who play all smash games) ;)

Yes it will be worth it. Melee didn't turn competitive overnight and neither will Brawl. It will take years for Brawls competitive scene to establish itself. So unless you want to play a part in helping Brawl grow competitively it'd be better to stick to melee.
