For the GB version you created a character who you played as competing in matches with different opponents and completing tournaments. With every win you would gain stats and decide what you wanted to upgrade with your character.
Whether you preferred speed, power, technique or numerous other skills it was up to you.
Then with the N64 GameBoy game adapter that went into the back of the controller, you could transfer your main character and partner into the N64 version to play as on the big screen.
This would be an incredible new feature for the game and give the people a strong reason to buy the 3DS version.
You start off your journey as your customizable Mii, choosing the power, speed and other stats you want.
You can also choose from different Mii-only special moves and unlock more when you complete more of Adventure Mode. Then you can transfer your Mii to the Wii U version and play as them.
You can still play as a Mii character in the Wii U version without a 3DS version, you just won't be able to customize anything besides what Mii you choose.
This would allow for a more personal Mii character a 3DS owner could play as and allow for absolute uncertainty when facing one in a match.
