Wondering How Is Marth Played

Hey everyone !

I'm Semi-new to Smash and been only been playing for the last 3 days. I decided to main Marth and have some difficulty playing him. I noticed that Marth doesn't really have any safe poke moves. As a result I realized that he may be more of a whiff punished/Spacing character played more of a defensive style with him rather then going full out aggressive.

So in short am i playing him the way he is "Supposed to be played in this version of the game"

More of a hit and run, whiff punished heavy character?

That is actually the exact archetype that he is usually placed in. He is not all that fast compared to his other iterations, so he actually has a hard time rushing down, so its simpler to catch the opponent off guard and then combo from there. He also does not have as much range as Shulk or power like Ike, but what you can do is use the tipper on his sword discourage your opponent from shielding, I would usually short hop into it, or train yourself to use forward air to to approach.
